The Almageller High Trail promises magnificent panoramic views of the glaciated Mischabel range and the majestic Dom, one of the most beautiful alpine flower meadows far and wide, and a wonderful alpine descent through fragrant mountain forests. The starting point of the tour is easily reached by gondola from Saas-Grund.
It begins at Kreuzboden, a true family paradise above Saas-Grund – with a petting zoo, a water play park, and a small mountain lake. The trail winds along the flank of the mighty Trift Glacier, past rugged cliffs and blooming alpine meadows. With a bit of luck, you might spot an edelweiss stretching its white, felted star toward the sun. At an altitude of 2,500 meters, you can let your gaze wander down into the beautiful Saas Valley and the turquoise-blue Mattmarksee.
You'll soon reach the Almagelleralp, where a stop for refreshments is worthwhile. On their terrace, you can relax and enjoy the beautiful Alpine panorama. Then, follow the Leebach stream. You'll soon reach the tree line and enter a magical alpine forest.
Finally, you'll reach Saas-Almagell, where you'll find several lovely places to stop for a relaxing break.
