Hiking

The high-shore path between Sassnitz and Lohme is one of the classic hiking tours on Jasmund. Spectacular views of the Baltic Sea, dense beech forests, and imposing chalk cliffs accompany you along the twelve kilometers.

Right from the start of your tour, you'll immerse yourself in the impressive landscape of Jasmund National Park. The path winds along the rugged high shoreline through ancient beech forests and leads past striking rock formations.

After about three kilometers, you'll reach the UNESCO World Heritage Forum near the Wissower Klinken cliffs – an ideal opportunity for a break with interesting information about the ancient beech forests. The tour continues to the Königsstuhl National Park Center, where you'll not only enjoy spectacular views from the Skywalk, but also an interactive exhibition that reveals the invisible. The tour finally ends in Lohme, from where you can conveniently take the bus back to Sassnitz.

The Königsstuhl is the most striking chalk cliff in the Jasmund National Park. You can learn a lot about the nature reserve in the National Park Center. A new bridge is currently being built at the Königsstuhl.

August 26, 2024, Hochuferweg Jasmund

A new love, a new fascination... For more than 10 years we didn't travel far for professional and family reasons, but thanks to the motorhome we had a fantastic time on the Rhine, Moselle and Lahn, Eifel, Hunsrück, Palatinate Forest and also (unfortunately too rarely) in the Allgäu. We could never have imagined how much we loved the northeast and in particular the island of Rügen. This unique contrast of green beech forests on white chalk under a blue sky with a blue sea is deeply fascinating. Well, and we are certainly not alone in this love and that is the fly in the ointment. As great as this high bank path is with its numerous views, the beach descent on the Kieler Bach, the "immersion" in the chalk world, and much more, it is also very touristy and the solitude that we often find in other areas cannot be found on this stretch of the path in the Jasmund National Park. But this is only a small disappointment compared to the size and magnificence of this landscape. 💖💖🌞🌲🥾🌳🌞👍👍😎😍

June 2025 Lohme The entire beautiful chalk coast in one go, from Lohme to Sassnitz.

Translated by Google

We parked our car in Lohme, took the number 14 bus to Sassnitz and hiked back from there

This path runs over wooden bridges and stairs with some ups and downs. Therefore not suitable for prams and disabled people (hips, knees). Animals: bumblebees, little birds, mice, swans. Plants: beech forests. Information at: https://www.nationalpark-jasmund.de/erleben-erholen/wege-durch-den-nationalpark/hochuferweg.

This morning we took the bus to Sassnitz-Wedding at 8:10 a.m. and set off on our hike. We enjoyed a lot of beautiful forest and repeatedly marvelous views of the sea and the chalk cliffs. Unfortunately, you can no longer go to the lookout point on Königstuhl, as there is an entrance fee. A lot of construction has been done, and the €12 entrance fee is understandable, but it would have taken up too much of our time today. Continued through the beautiful forest to Lohme, where we returned by bus. We had wonderful weather again and a wonderful tour 🔆🌞👍🥾🙂

October 2023 chalk cliffs from Sassnitz: Hochuferweg – Lenzer Bach – Kollicker Bach - Königsstuhl – Lohme The high bank path above the chalk cliffs is recommended in any weather. But today, blue sky, turquoise sea and brilliant autumn colors in the old beech forest. It was something very special to be able to experience this. And so we walked the whole way from Sassnitz to Lohme. We saved the very expensive entrance fee to the national park center again this year. The views along the way are many times more beautiful and lonelier. And the actual Königsstuhl, as we know it, will probably soon be history. But more on that on one of the next tours.

From Sassnitz to Lohme is easy on the joints (more ascents than descents) and rewards with a beautiful evening atmosphere with a distant view of Cape Arkona.

I took the bus from Sassnitz to Lohme to take a relaxed walk along the high shore path to Sassnitz. The sound of the Baltic Sea and the fantastic views accompanied me. A great path with lots of small climbs and descents and great views.
