Hiking
On this tour, water accompanies you every step of the way. You'll walk around the Eixendorf Reservoir, enjoying ever-changing views of the water.
The lake holds its secrets. At its bottom lies the former village of Eixendorf, which was submerged by the construction of the dam. Information boards along the trail tell you about the construction of the reservoir as well as the flora and fauna around the lake.
Be sure to include a visit to the Crafts Museum and a stop at the rustic "Salzfriedl" inn along the way. By the way: If you'd rather hike only 12 kilometers instead of 15, you can take a shortcut at the bridge.

The hiking trail over the dam wall is officially closed due to construction work, but there are no workers there at the weekend and we walked over it on Friday afternoons, which was possible without any problems, otherwise we would have had to turn around and go under the car bridge. The only reason why the path is probably closed is that after the dam you have to walk about 200-300 meters on the road, but this is not very busy. So we could walk around the lake 😊 the 15km are great to hike. The north bank is more varied, it always goes up and down, sometimes a bit steep, but everything is possible! The great thing about the hike is that you almost always have good views and only a little walking in the forest. If the weather is nice in summer, it will be repeated, because Peter was not kind to us that day 😉 The old locomotive is also interesting, but above all the sunken village. You can see the road that was there in 1975 before the flooding, which now leads into the lake 🤣
The weekend at home ended with a trip around the reservoir and a visit to the grumpy rock face, which doesn't look any friendlier in profile either.
Since I simply don't have the time to edit my tours on the computer and label the photos nicely, and so many tours are piling up here, I decided today to simply put the tours back up as they are on my phone. 😇 You can usually imagine what you'll see. 😅 Thomas will accompany Lina and me on November 2nd on the 42 km Mammoth March 🦣 in Berlin. So we have to make sure that everyone is fit for the route. Thomas actually wanted to go to a lake today 💦 but Lina and I wanted to go hiking. Thanks to an advertisement from the Upper Palatinate Lake District on Facebook, a compromise was quickly found. 15 km around the Eixendörfer reservoir. 🐕🦺🥾🥾💦 What was unfortunately not mentioned in the advertisement for the route is the massive blue-green algae problem that the lake has. Luckily, or however you want to look at it, it's so bad right now that it's sinking to the sky 🤢 and I quickly checked the water quality on the internet. So bathing and constant water for Lina was out of the question. It's a shame, but the scenery is still really great. 😃
Today we went on a hike that you can repeat at any time. Especially when it's over 30 degrees, "some" water nearby is a welcome change. We walked around the entire Eixendorf reservoir on a 15km route. We've been there twice, but each time we started differently and at different times of the year. The summer hike was still pending and was completed today. With mostly slight ups and downs, the reservoir, which is full again, offers a number of views. The tour is also mostly in the shade, which is very welcome in such sweaty temperatures 😅😉 In summer there is also a beautifully situated beer garden, the "Salzfriedl" museum tavern. Mouse Lorenz was happy about the very reasonable prices for his beer there. A stop is therefore recommended 🍻
Today we wanted to go to Neunburg vorm Wald to hike around the Eixendorfer Lake. So we loaded the dogs into the car and off we went... In Amberg, an attentive driver drove past us and pointed at our car. I immediately pulled over to the right and looked. Hallelujah, we were lucky, the left rear brake calliper was stuck and everything was glowing and smoking. We drove to ATU and parked it, they repaired it there and we got a rental car from a car rental company. We drove to the lake by car and finally went on our planned hike. When we drove home, we got another shock, the rental car had given up the ghost 🙈. We broke down right on the ramp to the B85. We waited ages again for a tow truck to come. Another rental car was not possible because of our dogs, so my sister picked us up in Nabburg. The hike around the lake was great but the rest of the day was a disaster 🤣🙈. Shortly after 10pm we were finally back home 🥳🥳😩😩
Beautiful circular route. Also suitable for summer as the path goes through the forest a lot. Unfortunately there is no possibility to dip your feet in the water or let the dog bathe. Everything is full of blue-green algae.
The wonderful trip to Eixendorf... Not... 9am, everyone gets in the car, the gang of four of course, and off we go towards the Eixendorf reservoir. In Amberg, passing cars alerted us to our tires 🙈 Brakes stuck, luckily there is a garage just a few hundred meters away. Looking for a rental car with dog(s)... Not recommended. Found something at short notice, so walked to the rental car, after starting there were strange noises and lights flashing, well, we wanted to hike, so to Eixendorf and off to the parking lot. A nice, long walk with lots of breaks. So we headed back home, the car was acting up again... After a few km, everything was flashing, pulled over to the right, radio off. We drove on and then it went completely off, so we were on the road a second time 🙈 with the dogs. By the time a tow truck arrived and we finally got home, it was 10:20 p.m. Your 🤦🏼♀️beautiful day... Not 🤣🤣
Eixendorfer reservoir is lowered due to construction work. Interesting what comes out. The course of the Schwarzach is visible or the former railway line, road to Eixendorf and much more.
