Sinzig Castle

Highlight • Castle

The small castle in Sinzig seems to come directly from a fairytale movie. Arcades, arched windows, pitched roofs and around a well-kept garden - only a princess is missing.

But …

Bench With View of the Eifel

Highlight • Viewpoint

One of the few spots on this stage of the Rhine Castle Trail with a view of the Eifel Mountains and the volcanic cones. A glider airfield is located at the edge of the forest opposite.

April 26, 2026,Barbarossaschleife Sinzig grün
Our hike began at the train station in Sinzig. Through the alleys of the town, the path led us up into the city and to the historic castle, before we plunged into the quiet vastness of the forests. Across open heights, we reached the Mönchsheide, where the Rhine valley spread out before us in all its beauty.
On the heights …

All in all, the tour was disappointing. Up to the glider airfield, it was still a pretty nice route. In Sinzig, you pass some of the sights and the Barbarossa memorial. Overall, there are no panoramas worth seeing, a very high proportion of asphalt and concrete, and a gravel slope behind the castle - not a pleasant hike. 3 out …

Today we used the sunny weather again for a hike. In Sinzig am Schloss we start on the green Barbarossa Loop.

The sunny hiking trail leads up to the wooded heights above Sinzig and across to Mönchsheide. There at the manor next to the glider airfield you can use the inn in summer. 🍻. But we are satisfied with a …

The starting point of the tour was selected by us so that it can be reached by public transport and begins near the Sinzig train station. The route leads over asphalted and paved field and forest paths. Since it runs mostly through forest areas, the tour can also be hiked well in hot weather.

Today we @Sus, @Wandertante and I hiked the Barbarossaschleife Grün from Sinzig train station. It went past Sinzig Castle, along the Rheinburgenweg to the Mönchsheide glider airfield, and continued through the Franconian district. We visited the parish church of St. Michael. Afterwards we went to Ahrental Castle. We continued through the Koisdorf district and then back to Sinzig. We had …

To say it straight away: An imperial treat - as the name might suggest - this round is not...
And the nickname "discovery tour" hasn't fully opened up to me either...
Although there are always a few buildings worth seeing, such as Ahrenthal Castle, and lovely little things, such as the Koisdorf egg flap, there is also a lot of …

The start and finish was the car park on Jahnstrasse in Sinzig. Right at the beginning, the route is mostly on asphalt until you eventually reach the forest. From here, the route continues partly on the Rheinburgenweg, mostly on wide paths, until you reach the Mönchsheide gliding airfield, which you then circle. Many benches invite you to rest. Unfortunately, it …
