Ah yes, it's not 100% the MaareGlück tour, as my starting point was different and I walked it counter-clockwise, to avoid the tourist crowds at the Sage and Schreibe 3 Maaren!
Today we went for a walk around Schalkenmehren with the Eifel club
A beautiful tour past three volcanic lakes (Maare) and many other sights. Almost entirely on forest paths or gravel roads. Places to stop for refreshments are available at the beginning and end of the tour, and also relatively far in the middle. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended. Parking cost us €5 for the day.
A hike with plenty of water was my Mother's Day wish, and so I chose the MaareGlück trail. The sun made the Schalkenmehren Maar glisten in the sun and the broom glow. The lupins formed purple splashes in the meadow. Every few hundred meters, we admired the magnificent landscape from one of the numerous benches. Before reaching the Weinfelder Maar, the Eifel poet Hubertus Arendt, who also works as a guide for the Eifel Association, regaled us with a poem he wrote about the formation of the maars and the golden-yellow blooming broom. I then climbed the Dronke Tower, named after the founder of the Eifel Association. After the Gmünden Maar, we walked a short, somewhat monotonous stretch along the Lieserpfad, which was wide and gravelly here, before we reached the starting point after another quite pleasant climb. I definitely want to come back, because in the Gmünden Maar you can swim in the outdoor pool and even jump into the maar from the diving board.
Beautiful circular hike from Schalkemehren around 3 Maare. There are nice places to rest and great views of the Maare. The actually manageable meters in altitude are spread over 3 crisp climbs😅
Nice hike around the maars, only small short climbs. Nice views of the volcanic landscape.
