Today we enjoyed another relaxing hike – again in Jostedalsbreen National Park and again to a glacier – the "Bergsetbreen" 🗻. 😊 We made a gentle ascent to the glacier via a beautiful, rocky path or wooden walkways through the boggy landscape dotted with numerous birch trees. There's a turnoff to another glacier, "Tuftebreen." We might save that one for next time – you have to have goals, after all. 😉😂 Shortly before our return journey, the sun almost broke through the clouds, so the glacier shone beautifully in the light. A beautiful end to Norway 🇧🇻 We'd love to come back 👋🏼😄
Today we went to the 2nd glacier (Norwegian: Breen) in Jostedal. We start quite early and are almost the first at the end of the path. Here you are warned against going any further. We only feel our way a little further to the glacier river, which would also be difficult to cross. An easy and beautiful hike, with a few animal watchers and typical Norwegian tree growth.
A beautiful hike to the Bergsetbreen glacier. But oh, how hot it was.
The second glacier today. Krundalen is considerably more secluded than the valley to Nigardsbree next door. It has a completely different character, too. To the right, near the parking lot, is the valley to the Tufte Glacier, with a mighty waterfall. Otherwise, it's almost lovely, with 🌳birch groves and lots of flowers. After about 2 km, the scenery changes, and the valley floor resembles a gigantic amphitheater. Countless waterfalls roar down the walls. We also marveled at a smaller glacier outburst with a ripple effect. Therefore, it makes a lot of sense to keep a safe distance. ...
Can you get enough of glaciers? We don't know, but we're doing everything we can to try it out, because today we're driving to an area that's home to 4 or 5 glaciers. The most famous is Nigardsbreen. But we haven't put it on the list yet, because we don't arrive at the campsite until the afternoon and our experience has taught us that we should plan a lot of time for glaciers that are close to being accessible. Instead, we're drawn to Bergsetbreen, which can only be seen from afar because it has retreated a lot in recent years. The hike, with its almost 3.5 km one way, is supposed to be super easy, has hardly any elevation gain and is therefore also ideal for Ari. At around 5:30 p.m. we reach the hiking car park and set off hiking (and trudging 🐶). The trail is really super easy and feels like a little evening stroll after all the other hikes. Today we didn't get any sunshine, instead it drizzles now and then. But this weather also suits Norway well and gives the photos a slightly mystical touch. When we reach the end of the hike and have come as close to the glacier as we can get these days, we are once again fascinated and impressed. So we don't have glacier fever yet. On the contrary, Torleiv, the Norwegian we met at the Austerdaalsbreen, writes to us on Facebook that we are now becoming glacier enthusiasts. And he is so right.
