Mountain biking

Not far from the small town of Jasper, in the heart of the national park of the same name, you can follow the impressive Athabasca River for part of its journey through the province of Alberta. You'll cycle through sparse coniferous forests and along green meadows.

The starting point is the trailhead at the Maligne River, where you'll also find picnic benches. From here, you'll cycle for a good stretch directly along the banks of the glacier-blue Athabasca River. Keep your eyes peeled, as the river attracts numerous wildlife, including proud elk.

After about six kilometers, you'll move away from the rushing river a little and cycle along shimmering lakes such as Mildred Lake and Lac Beauvert. Light forests and picturesque meadows line the trail, complemented by a fantastic view of Pyramid Mountain on the other side of the river. Just before the Old Fort Point Bridge, you'll turn around and cycle back to the starting point along the same route.

Tip: Alternatively, you can start the route at the Old Fort Point Bridge. It's best to check the current conditions beforehand.
