This section of the High Rockies Trail between Driftwood and Buller Creek promises breathtaking views and a truly epic ride. This trail, created specifically for recreational purposes, combines exhilarating rides with fascinating panoramas of the Canadian Rockies. If you're interested in doing the entire approximately 63-kilometer trail, you can find it in this tour: https://www.komoot.com/tour/2119686236.
The starting point for this section is the parking lot at the Driftwood Day Use Area on the Smith Dorrien Trail, where you'll immediately enter the forest. Rooty singletrack and numerous S-curves lead you to the junction with the West Wind Pass Trail. From here, the trail continues up and down as you cross several small streams that form waterfalls in the spring.
As you pedal to Buller Creek, a short section over avalanche debris will keep you on your toes—as will the spectacular view of Mount Nestor, which rises on the opposite side of Spray Lake. Where the High Rockies Trail meets the Buller Pass Trail, turn around and cycle back to the starting point.
