Gravel riding

This challenging trail tour is offered as a guided tour at Gravel Ground – Germany's largest gravel festival at the end of September. The tour is a real treat for experienced gravel bikers who enjoy riding on easy trails off-road.

Even outside of the Gravel Ground festival, this demanding gravel ride is a lot of fun. Anyone who is a skilled biker and enjoys riding on narrow trails will find this tour a fantastic treat.

Starting from the grounds of the Ewald coal mine in Herten, the tour first leads along the balcony promenade of the Hoheward spoil tip and then briefly up to the Hoppenbruch spoil tip. Those looking for even more trail fun will find suitable options on both spoil tips. But we don't want to overdo it right at the beginning, so this suggested tour starts off with a relaxed ride along the Rhine-Herne Canal.

The Magic Mountain is briefly visited before things really get exciting on the Brammen.Trail. North of the canal, the tour leads through the Brauck Alps, taking in the Mathias Stinnes spoil heap, spoil heap 22, and up to the Mottbruch spoil heap. The spoil heap in Brauck is also still unknown to many. In Gelsenkirchen, you'll then cycle up to the Rungenberg spoil heap before returning to the starting point of the tour.

Recklinghausen II Mine Headframe

Highlight • Monument

The hoistway of Shaft 4 is an impressive relic from the coal mining era. It's just always nice to come over here - but somehow it's also thoughtful.

The singing rock, which you have to knock on to hear its music. The wonderful view is not to be missed.

The highlight of this former mine dump are the two pyramid-like peaks separated by a gap. At night, the two impressive spotlights complete the image of a pyramid. The wide panoramic view and the diverse hiking options on the dump make it a great local recreation destination.

“Gravel meets MTB” is the tour description of one of the many routes 🤣
We thought it was exactly our thing ☝️
Off on the track, right at the first dump the tour was changed a little and a small MTB route was added 🙈
Since @Sascha K. had his MTB with him, he had a clear advantage on …
