This route was planned by komoot.
The Szwajcarka Mountain Hut often serves as a convenient starting point, and parking is typically available in its vicinity or at Karpnicka Pass. Look for designated parking areas near these locations in the Rudawy Janowickie Mountains.
While specific direct public transport routes to Karpnicka Pass or the immediate trailhead can be limited, you might find bus connections to nearby towns like Karpniki or Janowice Wielkie. From there, you may need to arrange a local taxi or walk to the starting point. It's best to check local bus schedules for the Rudawy Janowickie region before your trip.
Generally, trails in the Rudawy Janowickie Mountains are dog-friendly. However, it's always recommended to keep your dog on a leash, especially in protected areas like the Rudawski Park Krajobrazowy, and to clean up after them. Be mindful of other hikers and any wildlife you might encounter.
The trail is enjoyable throughout much of the year. Spring and autumn offer pleasant temperatures and beautiful foliage. In winter, the landscape transforms into a 'fairytale atmosphere' with snow-covered trees, but be prepared for colder conditions and potentially icy paths. Summer is also popular, but can be warmer.
The Rudawski Park Krajobrazowy (Ore Mountains Landscape Park) generally does not require specific hiking permits or entrance fees for accessing its trails. However, always respect local regulations, stay on marked paths, and be aware of any specific rules for protected areas or private land you might pass through.
This hike is categorized as moderate. While paths are often easily accessible, the route involves a significant elevation gain of around 477 meters, requiring good fitness. It's suitable for most hikers with some experience, but beginners should be prepared for the ascents and descents.
The komoot estimate for this 12.2 km hike is approximately 3 hours and 50 minutes. However, depending on your pace, breaks, and time spent exploring highlights like Bolczów Castle Ruins, it can take anywhere from 4 to 6 hours to complete the entire loop.
Key highlights include the historic Bolczów Castle Ruins, a remarkable 14th-century architectural gem integrated with granite rocks. You'll also pass the Szwajcarka Mountain Hut and the impressive Starościńskie Rocks. The trail offers wonderful views over the Hirschberg valley and other dramatic rock formations.
The trail features varied terrain, taking you through lush forests and open meadows. You'll encounter natural paths, some rocky sections, and potentially muddy areas, especially after rain. The region is known for its dramatic granite rock formations, which are a defining characteristic of the landscape.
Yes, the Szwajcarka Mountain Hut is a prominent facility along the route, offering a place to rest, eat, and potentially find accommodation. It's a great spot for a break or to start/end your hike. The Bolczów Castle Ruins are freely accessible and provide an interesting historical stop.
Yes, this route covers significant sections of several official trails. You'll hike along parts of the European long distance path E3 - part Poland (west), the International friendship trail Eisenach–Budapest (Poland west), Szklarska Poręba - Pasterka, and Szlak Zamków Piastowskich. It also includes segments of the Yellow trail and Droga Zamkowa.
And we continue with a hike in beautiful Poland. This time the Landshut Ridge (Rudawy Janowickie) in front of the Giant Mountains. This hiking area was recommended to us because it was hopelessly overcrowded around the famous Adršpašsko-Teplické skály. However, we marveled at various rock formations here, such as the Starościńskie Skały with Lwia Góra (Lion Mountain), the Skalny Most (Rock Bridge) and the Piec - Baking Oven Stone or Friedrich Wilhelm Stone, named after Prince Wilhelm of Prussia, to name just a few. Finally, we arrived at Zamek Bolczów, the Bolt Castle. It is a wonderful place to go on a discovery tour. However, nothing is secured there. So be careful 😁
