This route was planned by komoot.
On Sundays, Oslo residents make a pilgrimage to the nearby nature reserves. Getting there is convenient by bus, and in no time at all, you're out of the city and into the countryside. The circular hike through the Mellomkollen Nature Reserve is very varied and highly recommended, and not at all crowded. The forest area is located in Maridalen and is characterized by spruce and mixed forests. Some of the paths have a rustic and natural feel, with carpets of moss giving way to root-strewn forest paths. The viewpoints at Gaupekollen and Mellomkollen are also diverse.
I would recommend to use the "official" blue marked pathway on the first part until you come to a crossing in the forest where you have to deviate and walk right instead of left. You can of course continue on the official round tour but then you will skip Gaupekollen which i can highly recommend! If you do not want to climb up as much in the beginning of the tour you can of course also hike it the other way round.
