Hiking
The only difficulty of this route is that it starts at around 2000 metres above sea level. It is important to take into account the weather forecast in the cold months, especially if snow is expected. For the rest of the seasons it is always a good idea to bring a warm coat in case the wind picks up and the temperature drops. In terms of distance, gradient and difficulty, this is an ideal walk for the whole family.
The starting point is at the Sámara mountain viewpoint, on the TF-38 road, where there are some parking spaces. The path is a narrow trail that makes its way over volcanic terrain like a faint trail that battles the elements.
The beauty of this excursion lies in the enjoyment of its landscape almost devoid of vegetation that easily reveals the underground forces that have shaped the orography. Lava flows, the Sámara crater and a great variety of formations will surprise you. In addition, the views of La Gomera and El Hierro, on clear days, are spectacular.

Circular hiking trail through the beautiful Teide National Park. I went the 13th. Short but nice. Great view of the Teide and on the other side of the Teno mountains.
November 13th, 2021 the Montaña Sámara was our destination for today. After we got hold of the last parking space on the street, we went up to the signposts. However, we did not take an official route, but took the narrow beaten path to go around the mountain. After about 850 m from the car, a barely visible path leads through the lava up to the crater rim ... down on serpentines into the crater floor and up again. Shortly afterwards we were back at the signposts .. exciting .. from here we went on the hiking trail through a black lava landscape interspersed with pines ... then at the edge of the wild lava flow that pulls down from the Montaña Reventada to the single standing pine. Here the path turned sharply to the right and through a surreal black landscape we went back to the car.
11/30/2022 The question this morning: is there sunshine at 1800 m or do we stay on the cloudy coast? We opted for the Montaña Samara and the circumnavigation of the Montaña de la Botija. But first we went around to the right on a narrow path along the lava slope, up to a turn-off to the left up to the crater rim. You can also go all the way around it, but that's no longer our performance group. Down into the crater...up the other side...and soon we were back on the normal route. Then we went on through a black to reddish shimmering lava landscape interspersed with pine trees. And then the view of the half-open crater of the neighboring volcano Montaña Reventada, which last erupted about 800-1000 years ago, and its lava flows. A surreal and somber landscape save for a single pine tree. Here the path turned right for us and at the lava flank of the Montaña de la Botija we went down again to the car I don't think anywhere else comes closer to the violence of a volcanic eruption than in this hostile area of the National Park. What an exciting tour and that with sun and no wind...we couldn't have made a better decision.
Today nice circular hike in Teide NP. In the best weather with views of Gomera, El Hiero and La Palma. There is a parking lot right at the start. We hiked route #13 Samara. Great views and views of Teide and Pico Viecho, the second highest mountain in Tenerife.
Again and again the small group at the interface between destruction and invasion of nature in the strongest and most beautiful sense. Hard to describe!
A very nice short, colorful and not too strenuous tour. The views of the Teide and Pico Viejo are fantastic. Definitely a recommendation.
Unprepared for a hike (JUST wanted to sniff the area first 🙈) we walked along the path.. since we hardly had water, we thought of turning back, were stopped in our plan by a nice couple and encouraged to continue the hardest part of the climb , since we already had the hardest thing behind us, and yes, we were rewarded with great views 😍😍😍 And the beautiful clouds that covered the valley, you could think we are close to heaven 😎 The Mirador de Sámara is at an altitude of about 1800m and from there you have a wonderful view of the small volcano called Sámara and also of the Teide and the Pico Viejo. The viewpoint can be reached by taking the road from Chio towards Mount Teide. So don't forget - headgear - Water - comfortable stable shoes and off to go hiking 🥾
Today we drove to Teide National Park. The circuit around the Volcán de la Botija starts at 1961 meters. At first we were accompanied by small trees and bushes, but after a short time only volcanic ash and rocks could be seen. A surreal landscape! We were very lucky with the weather again: around 25 degrees with little wind. The turning point was at almost 2100 meters with a wonderful view of the Pico de Teide. After a good two hours we were back at the parking lot and continued through the national park towards the north coast.
