This route is a collection of postcards of the most impressive volcanic landscapes in Tenerife. Along the way, a palette of thousands of brown, grey and ochre tones await you, colouring an immense amount of rock and earth textures.
As expected, El Teide is the star. The colossal cone rises above the ravines and constantly appears on the horizon. The native vegetation is another of the wonders of this walk. In addition, each season offers different shades in its whimsical shapes.
You can get to El Portillo, either by private vehicle or by bus on lines 341, 342 and 348. If you are going to use your own vehicle, keep in mind that parking spaces are limited.
The route is not complicated, neither physically nor technically, and is ideal for doing it with the family. Remember to be careful with rubbish; if you bring some snacks, take them back with you to help preserve the landscape. Any debris left unchecked can blow away in one of the frequent gusts of wind.

Today we hiked up to El Teide. We started with heavy cloud cover. But since it's all uphill, we broke through the cloud cover after Aguamansa, and the more beautiful part of the day began 🌞. We just barely found a parking spot at the visitor center and set off on "Sendero No. 2," a loop around Montana del Cerrillar. It was a good climb at first, but with magnificent views of El Teide and the cloud cover below. On the way back, we followed a gorge with a striking drop-off, before descending along the mountainside over black sand (I have to pat myself on the back for sticking with it 😀). Back at the starting point, we made a quick stop at the botanical garden, but it's not really worth it at this time of year. Before heading back, we took a short detour by car to Cañada Blanca to check out the location for further hikes.
Easy hike with beautiful views of the north coast and the Teide. Easy to do with public buses.
Much nicer than expected. Short but varied. Great final tour.
...we hiked today. Today's tour went from Caldera through the hilly lava and sand landscape to the "Llano de Majo". We always had a wonderful view of the highest mountain, Teide, with a height of 3718 m.
Perfect view of Mount Teide. Relatively easy route.
Today we drove to the Teide National Park on Tenerife in wonderful weather (27 degrees). We had already chosen a circular hike at home and we went on it today. Even at an altitude of over 2,300 meters, shorts and a T-shirt were enough for us. The Arenas Negras trail is very popular and so we often met other hikers. The landscape is impressive. A wide variety of plants grow on the barren soil. The different stone formations and colors made me pull out the camera again and again to take photos. But the photos don't come close to the images I have stored in my head. A hike I won't forget!
Unfortunately all the photos are messed up. Once again, Komoot is NOT ABLE to place the photos in the right place or in the chronologically correct place. My time on vacation is too important to me to spend hours placing the photos correctly by hand. So please excuse this mess, but it's not my fault! We did our hike today in the Teide National Park. We decided on the Arenas Negras round. On this tour you often have a great view of the Pico del Teide. This area was formed in May 1706 when the Trevejo Volcano (also called Arenas Negras Volcano) erupted. The eruption completely destroyed the port of Garachico, which was the most important port in Tenerife at the time. We parked at the El Portillo visitor center because this is where the circular trail starts, which is signposted as trail no. 2. The path leads through interesting volcanic formations and passes between the two extinct volcanoes Montana del Cerrillar and Montana de Maja. The path then leads along a kind of gorge with multi-colored rock cliffs and finally leads in serpentines over small, black lava pebbles (so-called lapilli) back towards the visitor center. It was a very nice hike, because the many different colors that a volcanic landscape creates are very impressive. A fire in the spring destroyed some of the already sparse vegetation, but in some places you can see that nature is taking back what was lost in the fire. After the tour, we paid a short visit to the botanical garden, which is located near the visitor center.
Area, Arenas Negras 😊 led through a bizarre and varied landscape and you could almost see the Teide 👀 you can see it in my F's 😂 PS: Contrasting program to the coast, also above the clouds where freedom is supposed to be limitless 😉
