Hiking

Stunning views of Plumas-Eureka State Park and a picturesque lakeshore await you on the hike up to Eureka Peak. Framed by the peaks of the northern Sierra Nevada, you'll enjoy peace and quiet and the chirping of local birdlife.

The starting point of the hike is the parking lot at idyllic Eureka Lake within the state park. From the lakeshore, the climb begins moderately. After a few minutes, you quickly gain elevation over an increasingly rocky section. Take your time, catch your breath every now and then, and enjoy the magnificent panorama that surrounds you.

After just under two miles, you'll reach the highest point of the hike: the summit of Eureka Peak. Eureka Lake shimmers below you, while numerous peaks rise and valleys stretch out around you, including the striking Mount Washington and the Sierra Buttes. It's a prime spot for a break before descending the other side of the mountain and back to the lake.
