This is the MTB Tour 2 modified with less road.
Ideal arrival option by train. Scenic tour with some tempting places to stop 🍺. Unfortunately, only a very small portion of the trail. But would do the round again anytime👍
MTB 2 - Altenberg The parking lot in front of Heiligenstadt, directly on the main road, is a good starting point. The entry into the MTB tour begins on the opposite side of the street at the junction to Neumühle. After a small ascent, the route runs on good paths to Burggrub. Then a few meters on the country road and left into a forest path. Here it goes up the mountain for the first time to Oberngrub and on to Tiefenhöchstadt and Kälberberg. Except for a small, violent climb near Frankendorf, the 10 km or so is mostly downhill again. Passing Senftenberg (nice beer cellar, but can be a bit overcrowded on weekends) it goes to Buttenheim (Löwenbräu and St. Georgen Keller). After Buttenheim there are a few smaller climbs to get back into gear after the rest. Continue to Gunzendorf and Stackendorf. Now comes a long ascent below the Kautschenberg, followed by a descent towards Tiefenstürmig. Before the village, the route goes off to the left, up another ascent (river crossing). When it rains or after it has rained down, the ascent can be very wet and slippery. After Kalteneggolsfeld there is only a small ascent to master and from now on, it goes on partly beautiful trails down to the starting point in Heiligenstadt. Nice after-work tour with a stop at Senftenbergkeller with new tenant. We recommend.
