This route was planned by komoot.
You can start this trail from either the charming village of Iseltwald or near the impressive Giessbach Falls. Both locations offer convenient access to the lakeside path.
Yes, parking is available in both Iseltwald and near the Giessbach Falls. If you're starting at Giessbach, you can also take a scenic boat trip across Lake Brienz to the Giessbach boat station, and then use the historic funicular up to the Grandhotel Giessbach and the falls.
While it's a lakeside trail, expect a proper hiking experience with ascents and descents, not a flat promenade. The path winds through mountain forests and directly along the lake, featuring gravel paths and natural surfaces. Some sections are even 'knocked out of the rock,' adding to its unique character.
The trail is generally considered easy to moderately challenging. It's suitable for families with children who are comfortable with moderate walking and uneven terrain. While some parts are relatively flat, there are steep sections, so appropriate footwear is recommended. Komoot rates this specific route as moderate.
The most prominent feature is the stunning turquoise-blue Lake Brienz. You'll also encounter the majestic Giessbach Falls, which cascade dramatically into the lake, and the historic Grandhotel Giessbach. The views back towards Iseltwald, with its notable Schloss Seeburg, are also spectacular. You can also find a restaurant at Bramisegg.
Yes, the trail is generally dog-friendly, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful lakeside scenery with your canine companion. Please ensure your dog is kept on a leash, especially in busier areas and near wildlife.
The trail is beautiful in spring, summer, and autumn. Summer offers the warmest weather and opportunities for swimming in Lake Brienz, though the water is only pleasantly warm during high summer. Autumn provides stunning foliage. Winter conditions can vary, so check local reports before planning a winter hike.
No, there are no permits required or entrance fees to hike the Iseltwald - Giessbach Lakeside Trail. It is freely accessible to the public.
Yes, you'll find several barbecue and picnic spots along the trail, perfect for a rest. The Grandhotel Giessbach, located at the falls, offers catering options. There's also Bramisegg, a restaurant along the route, and the Schweibenalp Retreat Center offers facilities.
Many hikers suggest starting at Giessbach Falls and walking towards Iseltwald. This direction often provides better photo opportunities as the sun tends to be behind you, illuminating the stunning lake and mountain scenery.
Yes, this route intersects with several other official trails. You'll find sections that are part of the Aare Route, the Lakes Route, and the Iseltwald - Giessbach (Uferweg) itself. It also briefly touches upon the Saumpfad, Gässli, Matte, Gassa, Burg, and Achermatte trails.
A beautiful path leads from Iseltwald along Lake Brienz to the Giessbach Falls. Several waterfalls in a row form a beautiful spectacle. A cold beer in the hotel and the return journey by ship make for a successful end to the day.
It was a moody day, but the waterfall was beautiful, as expected. I love the power of water.
Beautiful and relaxing hiking from Iseltwald along the lake to the Giessbach Falls. Was great….
From Ringgenberg, take the boat to Iseltwald. A photo hotspot for Asian guests...5 CHF to take a picture on the jetty. 🤷♂️🙈. From Iseltwald, take the beautiful lakeside path to Giessbach to see the Giessbach Falls...👌👍
During my holidays, I also enjoy spending time in nature in this wonderful weather. Today, I'm drawn to the Giessbach Falls again. Even though I've been there before, I always enjoy returning. I start with the circular trail around the falls, which radiates a pleasant coolness. Then I walk down to Lake Brienz. There, I follow the beautiful lakeside path, which leads me to the village of Iseltwald. The trail leads through patches of forest and across open terrain with beautiful views of the lake. Finally, I took a short walk through the village of Iseltwald before taking the boat to Brienz. The Giessbach Falls are famous for their 14 cascades flowing into Lake Brienz. They are directly connected to the beautiful Grand Hotel Giessbach by the historic Giessbach Railway, one of the oldest funicular railways in Europe.
The shore path from Iseltwald to Giessbach along Lake Brienz attracts crowds of walkers and hikers in summer. We had the path to ourselves on Sunday morning and it was just beautiful... Along the way there are great views of the lake/mountains and at the end the Giessbach waterfall, which thunders powerfully in white cascades 400 meters down and over 14 steps past the Grand Hotel Giessbach. Belle Epoque fairytale castle https://wegwandern.ch/grandhotel-giessbach-brienz/ We continue walking along narrow paths through a beautiful beech forest up to the Gippi peak, where we enjoy the panoramic view and then back down and by boat to Isetwald. And of course, lunch in the "fairytale castle" - we won't miss that. The dogs weren't allowed in, but they were lovingly looked after and entertained at reception - a new territory for me and a great idea.🐾 Also worth seeing: https://giessbach.ch/giessbach-bahn-1
Unfortunately, today is neither mountain nor climbing weather, but there is sunshine on Lake Brienz, which is separated from Lake Thun by Interlaken. Like all beautiful Swiss mountain lakes, unfortunately it is also very popular with tourists. (Tourists, that is, the others 😎)
