This route was planned by komoot.
The trail officially begins near the soldiers' cemetery in Ittenbach, a district of Königswinter. This is also a convenient starting point for parking your car.
Yes, the 5 Stream hike is rated as moderate and is generally accessible. It requires good general fitness but features mostly easy-to-navigate paths, making it suitable for beginners and families with older children who are used to walking longer distances.
The terrain is diverse, featuring light, tall deciduous forests, open meadows with scenic views, and some residential areas. While largely on paved or well-graveled paths, there are also forest paths and trails. As the name suggests, a significant portion follows along streams.
The trail can be enjoyed year-round. However, spring and autumn offer particularly beautiful scenery with lush greenery or vibrant fall colors. Be aware that sections along the Quirrenbach can become muddy after rainfall or during autumn and spring.
Yes, the trail is generally dog-friendly. Many sections pass through natural areas and along streams, which dogs typically enjoy. Please ensure your dog is kept on a leash, especially in residential areas and near wildlife, and always clean up after your pet.
Key highlights include the serene Laubach valley, crossing the Pleisbach in Nonnenberg, and the Heisternbusch Forest Path. You'll also pass the impressive soldiers' cemetery in Ittenbach at the start, the Basalt Conveyor Belt Hühnerberg, and the charming Chapel of Quirrenbach.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the 5 Stream hike or other trails within the Siebengebirge Nature Park. It is freely accessible to the public.
Yes, sections along the Quirrenbach, particularly after the Quirrenbach mill, can become quite muddy after rainfall or during the wetter seasons (autumn and spring). It's highly recommended to wear waterproof hiking boots, especially if there has been recent rain.
Yes, the trail offers glimpses of the Siebengebirge panorama from various locations, such as the Hühnerberg. You'll also find open meadows that provide scenic views of the surrounding landscape.
Yes, the route also passes through sections of the KapellenSchleife 3 - Bergbau, Bäche & Handelswege, KapellenWanderung, and the Bergischer Weg, among others.
Yes, the 5 Stream hike is designed as a circular route, meaning you will end up back at your starting point without needing to retrace your steps.
In wonderful hiking weather, we walked over asphalt, forest and woodland paths along the 5 streams. We hardly saw them though because of the heavy overgrowth. The game reserve is beautifully situated on the edge of the forest. There is a bench here at the reserve where you can sit and relax.
Today wasn't the best hiking weather - the rain came too early or I started too late because I kept struggling, should I or shouldn't I with the uncertain weather. And then it's the same as always. Once outside, heavy rain is not pleasant, but it is still a good hike and the leaves and flowers look much fresher afterwards. That's why there are so many photos of it ;-). The path itself is beautiful, a little louder at the beginning and end, because the A3 and the ICE route already bring a certain volume with them. It rained quite a bit on the Hühnerberg and the way through Quirrenbach, which is why there are no photos. That was a shame because I would have loved to have captured the view from there, but today it was gray on gray. Hiking through the deciduous forests was just fantastic - the green almost blinded you. Just beautiful. I will definitely run this loop again when the weather is nice.
So far I only knew the streets of this area from racing bikes. I would not have thought that such a beautiful hike is possible here. While the parking lots and hiking trails were congested in the prominent area of the Siebengebirge, we hardly met other people. Because of a bridge closure we had to take a small detour.
Well, after all the great tours and highlights of the past few weeks, it was time for a disappointment. Although disappointment is too much, the path was nice, the weather was beautiful. I just didn't see the 5 streams, or if I did, only from a distance across a meadow, not a single place where I got to the water. Instead, there were lots of wide forest paths, lots of asphalt and long stretches through villages, two kilometers in the noise of cars parallel to the A3.... I would say there's a lot of room for improvement 🤷🏼♀️. None of that is really my thing, I prefer small paths and lots of nature without people etc. It's a shame, I was actually thinking about hiking to the end of the world in the Westerwald again this morning, but then I didn't feel like being around so many people and so I decided on one of the "10 tours around Königswinter" from the local tourism agency...
Great weather in February 🌞🌞🌞 Unfortunately it was still too cold to go for a bike ride, so we went on foot today 👍🏻😎😅
Beautiful tour, lots of forest, beautiful villages. However, next time I would choose a different starting point and maybe even avoid the stage along the autobahn. Despite the beautiful nature there, the noise in my opinion reduces the enjoyment. And especially at the end of a nice hike, I want to stay in that "Oh, that was nice" mood. 😉
