Beautiful dream path in the Eifel with great views, some beautiful narrow forest paths but also 60% wide forest paths. Despite the fact that due to the detour you can't go directly past Bürresheim Castle, it's a nice round.
The name says it all - a real dream with lots of moss, fantastic views and great paths along magnificent steep slopes. The tour was almost entirely in the shade and there were very many shelters (I experienced this for the first time on such a short route). A great spot there in the Rhine-Moselle-Eifel region, near Mayen 👌🏻.
Beautiful tour with many vantage points and great nature. Since the Nettebrücken are still destroyed, a detour was fortunately well signposted. For a dream path I found the forest path density a bit high. Modern foresters are more likely to drive cars. 😄 Nevertheless, it is definitely recommended because the forest is so varied and there are so many wonderful resting opportunities at top vantage points. Good tour for dogs and with barefoot shoes. If the tour is too long for you, you can also divide the tour into several loops. Unfortunately there is no rest stop.
After the Taunus, the only thing missing was the Eifel to complete the quartet!! Despite the long journey, I decided to drive to the Eifel and then walk the Förstersteig dream path from the "Am Leichenberg" hiking car park!! It's a good 700m from the car park to the dream path and you first cross the Vulkanpark climbing forest!! Then in the middle of the forest the Förstersteig crosses the forest path and the dream path begins!! Then it goes downhill on a good path, just as almost the entire tour is forest paths under your feet, here and there a narrow path!! Eiterbachweiher, Luisenplatzhütte and Altener Tempelchen are the first "highlights" and shortly before the Hochlay Hütte there is information about the diversion, as the Nette also destroyed a bridge in 2021 and you cannot reach Bürresheim Castle via the actual Förstersteig route! I went to the Hochlay Hütte anyway and could at least see the castle from above!! So I went back and continued on the diversion route! Then at some point you should turn left, but I decided to go right and then came across the actual path a little earlier than the diversion!! It went along the Nitzbach and of course uphill again! The Nitztalblick invited us to take a short break and from there we headed towards Kürrenberg, with great views of the Eifel and the Neuwieder/Koblenz basin!! At the Fernblick in Kürrenberg the markings were a bit unclear and so I did a few extra meters 🫣🙄 before I completed the loop and then came back to my carriage for the trip home on the way!!
After the originally planned hike was cancelled today, we decided to hike the Förstersteig dream trail near Mayen. 14.8 km turned into about 18.5. We somehow got lost several times. Once the signage for the diversion was really quite wrong. I'm used to that from the dream trails. It was still a wonderful day of hiking in the best weather ☀️ Unfortunately, the GPS signal was a bit late and the altitude was completely wrong again 🙄
Very high proportion of forest paths, lots of forest, destroyed bridge in the Nettetal, so there is no path to the castle from the hiking trail, but a nice view of the castle. Nice views.
Today, 5 minutes before the start of the hike, I joined a very nice group. Without knowing where we were going, I just went along with it... 🙂.....
A lovely walk that mostly leads through shady forest and is therefore certainly suitable if you want to get some exercise on a hot summer day. But the highlights are limited and I wouldn't necessarily describe the Förstersteig as absolutely "dreamlike".
