Hiking
Magical forests, mystical legends and wonderful views await you on the almost 18-kilometer-long Hexensteig near Kappelrodeck. As the name of the hike suggests, the witches are your constant companions. But don't worry, the magicians are well-disposed towards hikers per se. The starting point of your tour is the hiking car park on Zuckerberg in Kappelrodeck.
At the beginning, it goes uphill for a few kilometers. But along the way you keep passing nice places to take a break, so that the climb flies by. For example, you can sit on the witch's chair, recharge your batteries and learn something about the local folk legend of witches. With renewed vigor (is there some magic involved?), you continue uphill through the dense forest. In the "Zum Fiesemichel" snack bar, you have earned a long break. Most of the altitude for today has been covered. Incidentally, this is where the Kappelrodecker and Lautenbacher Hexensteig meet.
As befits a genuine witch's path, you will soon come across a crooked witch's house complete with a flying broom. Perhaps you have the right magic spell ready to launch the broom for flight? You then slowly hike back downhill through the Katzenschrofen rock formation. But not without enjoying a magnificent view as far as Alsace and the Vosges.
At the end of your hike, you will find several cozy places to stop for refreshments in Kappelrodeck. Or how about a wine tasting at the "Hex vom Dasenstein" wine cellar, for example, to stay true to today's theme?
The start and end point at the Kappelrodeck Ost stop is easily accessible by train. From Karlsruhe or Offenburg, take the regional train to Achern. Here you change to the RB24, which takes you directly to the start of the hike.

As I wander through the landscape, the melody comes to mind first, then the lyrics. Instead of "Witches' Trail," "No beautiful country" seems to me a nicer and more fitting name for today's experience.
With every meter of altitude you gain, the view of the Rhine plain and the Vosges becomes more impressive.
The softly formed landscape …
