Belchen-Multen Inn

Highlight • Restaurant

Inside and out you feel comfortable here, and the service is perfect.
All the cakes here are homemade, and you should definitely try the Black Forest gateau, a treat.

Belchen House

Highlight • Mountain Hut

When the weather is nice, the inn is very full due to the cable car. It's self-service - you place your order at the counter and you get drinks straight away. If you want to eat, you have to announce the table number and the food will be brought. This worked extremely quickly during our visit. You take drinks from the bar. It's a simple menu (potato salad with Wiener, schnitzel fries, soup of the day). The cake is delicious.

Belchen Summit (1,414 m)

Highlight • Summit

The Belchen is not the highest mountain, but it is one of the most beautiful mountains in the Black Forest, because it offers visitors a fantastic panoramic view of the Rhine Valley, the Vosges and, in good weather, even as far as the Alps. As one of the most popular excursion destinations in the southern Black Forest, the Belchen is well frequented all year round.

Trail Reviews

Michael
September 16, 2025, Premiumweg Belchensteig – Genießerpfade im Schwarzwald

Today, starting at the Wiedener Eck car park, I set off on the Belchensteig leisure trail. It started up through the forest to the road, then took a long descent through the stream valley. Then, up to the valley station of the Belchenbahn cable car. From there, I followed narrow paths steeply up to the Belchenhaus. With the dark clouds and strong wind, I was expecting another shower, but it stayed dry. Then, I took a long descent over the summit of the Belchen, which I had all to myself. You'd need to be sure-footed for the descent. Once at the bottom, I climbed again along the steep slopes and then down a wonderful forest path to the car park. Steep climbs, breathtaking views from the Belchen, fantastic trails—in my opinion, an absolutely wonderful trail.

Belchensteig connoisseur path, truly wonderful. Great views and beautiful paths that are excellently advertised. A climb that should be hiked.

The original plan was a snowshoe hike on Belchen. Unfortunately this was canceled due to the lack of snow. So I put on my hiking boots and walked the Belchensteig in the best weather ☀️. A very nice round...😊

Today's tour led to the Belchen in suboptimal weather to walk the Belchensteig there. Suboptimal because the visibility was not ideal today. The hike began at the Westweg gate at Wiedener Eck and initially led past the 1200s Dietschel, Hohtannen and Rollspitz into the background stream valley to the hamlet of Untermulten with its rustic Black Forest farms. It went on to the Belchen-Multen inn and from there the ascent to the Belchen began. On the way you passed the valley station of the Belchenbahn, which was the last chance to take a shortcut to the Belchenhaus😉 However, we preferred the footpath and had ample opportunity to enjoy the view on the way. When we arrived at the Belchenhaus, we were able to marvel at the Alps and the Rhine Graben, despite the poor visibility. The view of the surrounding Black Forest was also fantastic. It went on to the summit and from there the descent started over numerous forest paths to the starting point.

I have lousy internet here. Hundreds of thousands of attempts started to write a comment. So short and sweet, it was nice 😍 I still have goosebumps from the gigantic view from the Belchen.

Hiked the Belchensteig early on Sunday morning. Today I went clockwise. I've never walked in that direction before. I have to say that this is the better option. The temperatures were great for hiking. Well... a matter of opinion. Unfortunately I had to take a detour because of tree felling work. But it was very well signposted.

To say goodbye to the year 2021, we went to the Belchen today in the best weather. From the Wiedener Eck you walk via Untermulten to the Belchen mountain railway. From there the path winds up to the Belchenhaus. Once at the top, there was a grandiose alpine panorama today 🥰 From here it is not far to the summit. Here you have a perfect view of the Feldberg. The descent is via the actual Belchensteig, an alpine-looking narrow path, a dream! https://www.relive.cc/view/vZqNYk8VE36

Information sheet: The Belchen is considered the most beautiful mountain in the Black Forest. From its 1414 meter high summit, you have a fantastic view of the Alpine chain - from the Zugspitze to Mont Blanc. You could really hike this fantastic trail regularly. PS: Hikers who want to avoid the steep climb to the summit or the steep descent can take the cable car for this section. The small Belchen road takes you back to the route with moderate paths.
