Hiking
This hike takes you into the varied landscape between Wicker and the Main. The nickname "Switzerland" does not mean that there are really high mountains here, but it does indicate the many beautiful views that await you here. Very close to the starting point of this tour is the Wicker wine tasting stand, which you can mark down as you set off for an enjoyable finale on your return after this hike.
There are only a few kilometers between the two vertical highlights of this tour, namely the walk-in audio installation of the iron tree and the stone tower of the Flörsheimer Warte, but several centuries. Aside from the historical monuments, the diverse nature along the way will delight you on this circular hike.

This route was planned by komoot.
The weather forecast said 🌞, so we decided to walk a Riesling loop in Hesse. Parked in Wicker by the cemetery, we took a short path to the starting point. Awaiting us were vineyards, a beautiful nature reserve, lots of walnut trees, the iron tree, views of the Frankfurt and Rüsselsheim skyline with the Opel, St. Anna Chapel, the "Alte Kalkbrennöfen" industrial monument, forest paths, colorful trees 🍂🍂, the Flörsheim Warte, and panoramic views of Frankfurt, the Odenwald and Taunus mountains.... You notice on this tour that the airport isn't far away. The ✈️ ✈️✈️ flew over us every minute, which is fun to watch, but it's pretty loud. Well-signposted tour; what was missing was, once again, the 🌞.
The short loop through Flörsheim Switzerland was my Easter walk. Aside from the airplane noise—there were even periods of peace and quiet—it was a nice alternative when you don't want strenuous climbs, but also not completely flat. And you could actually enjoy plenty of birdsong among the large metal birds. Unfortunately, the rain came earlier than forecast, which somewhat spoiled the second half of the hike, but what's the point of bringing your rain jacket...
Today I followed a tour suggested by komoot, the "Riesling Schleife Flörsheimer Schweiz" tour / https://www.komoot.com/de-de/smarttour/e1795348259/riesling-schleife-floersheimer-schweiz?ref=wdd I changed the start and end points slightly, but overall it is a beautiful tour in Flörsheimer Schweiz. Perhaps it would have been better to do the tour in a month or two, as nature is not yet ready, but there was still a lot to see.
As of this year, there are 14 Riesling loops in the Rheingau in addition to the Wispertrails. Theme of wine, vineyards and nature. Of course I think it's great, circular routes with great signage are exactly my thing. I'll test some now and then. Today number 1, from Wicker the gateway to the Rheingau. The 7km are without difficulty and of course certainly more beautiful, more colorful, greener and in general in spring and summer. Today in November everything is gray and dreary when it rains. But the Rhine Main Regional Park is well done, great signage and 2 places to stop. The Wiesenmühle in the middle and the waiting room at the end. There is only outdoor dining here and that's fun when it's warm. I'm looking forward to more Riesling bows. The highlight here is definitely the iron tree
In the “Rheingau-Echo” I recently found a reference to the “Riesling loops”. There are 14 routes. https://www.rheingau.com/rieslingschleifen After a stroll through Wiesbaden, we drove on to Wicker and took in the Riesling loop “Flörsheimer Schweiz”, which was the furthest away from us. The tour is well signposted in both directions. The fact that planes were constantly flying quite low over our heads is due to the fact that Flörsheim is in the flight path from Frankfurt Airport. However, this could not be compared with the railway noise in the Middle Rhine Valley.
And then “Florsheim Switzerland”, actually a walking path but with a bit of a path. The tree sculpture and the Flörsheimer Warte are the highlights of the tour
The end of November was cold, but there was plenty of sun. Just right for the "Riesling Loop Flörsheimer Schweiz". We enjoyed the little tour. The only downside: During the tour, 98 big planes flew over our heads on their approach to the Rhine/Main area.
The hiking group "Hiking in Rhein-Main", today led by @Horst , went from Hochheim via the former lime kilns over the Flörsheimer Warte and the Eisenbaum back to Hochheim. I joined in for the best part. Curt was able to romp around with Emil and Mücke, a young Irish terrier. And he learned not to lose track in larger groups.
