When I read a while ago that the Guckaisee extra tour had been scrapped in favor of the new Wasserkuppe extra tour, I just thought, what nonsense is that? But I've since been told that the Guckaisee tour, with a route length of over 21 km and almost 700 meters of ascent and descent, was simply too strenuous for most hikers and should therefore be shortened. OK, I thought, you've already got the old tour in the bag, so you'll just do the new one too. But now, after I've done the new extra tour, I can only say that it turned out to be a really great tour. There are beautiful views along the route and you can't miss the radome on the Wasserkuppe on this tour anyway. Looking back, I'm glad I did the Wasserkuppe extra tour and can only warmly recommend it to everyone.
You can start the tour at the following parking lots: 🅿️ Parking lot, Guckaisee parking lot, free of charge 🅿️ Parking lot, Wasserkuppe parking lot P2, subject to a fee 🅿️ Parking lot, Fulda-Quelle parking lot, subject to a fee
So, I've done the tour again, charged my cell phone battery and taken a power bank with me just to be on the safe side so that my phone doesn't die again right before the end 😁. I started the tour from Guckaisee in a clockwise direction, so that the challenging climb to the Pferdskopf is at the beginning and I have to say that the tour is better for me this way. Then after almost ten kilometers there isn't an energy-sapping and joint-stressing descent ahead of me. The running time was about 2:30 hours, but with breaks we were on the road for 4:15 hours.

At kilometer 7 you can also take a shortcut to the Wasserkuppe. The loop to the Pferdskopf is quite steep... But the panorama there is magnificent 😉
Today, the beautiful weather drew us to the Guckaisee in the Rhön Mountains. From there, with a cool 12 degrees Celsius at the start, we hiked the Wasserkuppe extra tour, which featured additional highlights. (Source of the Fulda spring, Pferdskopf). A wonderful hike in fantastic weather. Afterwards, we enjoyed a light refreshment on the terrace of the Guckai-Stuben. 🥾🎒🌞
