Hiking

The hike begins and ends at the Oberalppass train station. At the nearby car park you will come across a lighthouse in the middle of the mountains. It is a replica of the lighthouse that used to mark the mouth of the Rhine in the Netherlands. This symbolizes the connection between the source and the mouth.

To reach the source at Lai da Tuma, you cross the Pazolastock. Along the way, magnificent views of a varied mountain panorama await you. But you shouldn't let this distract you; surefootedness is required at all times on the route.

Oberalp Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

At the Oberalp Pass at 2,044 meters, not only is the obligatory "passport photo" waiting at the Oberalp Pass sign, but also the only lighthouse in the Alps. It comes from Rotterdam, where the original lighthouse can be found in the Maritime Museum, which once stood in Hoek van Holland, at the mouth of the Rhine into the North Sea - thus completing the circle from the source to the mouth.

Thanks to the blueberry hunt, we needed about 2 hours longer than planned. About 5 hours is about right. 🙂

From the Oberalp Pass via Pazolastock it's almost 800 m ascent. A breather before continuing to the Badushütte and downhill to the source of the Rhine is inevitable with a view of the 3000m peaks. The path leads back to the Oberalp Pass via the 4-Quellen-Weg. 🥾🏔

Circular hike from the Oberalp Pass to the Pazolastock. In the upper part, the path crosses the steep mountainside several times. After the summit with a wonderful panoramic view, the path leads over the summit ridge to Lake Tuma (good shoes and a head for heights recommended). From here, an easy hiking trail takes you back to the Oberalp Pass.

After a night on the Oberalp Pass, we set off this morning at around 6:45 am to the source of the Rhine. Later I made a climb to a mountain very close by. If you always make sure that you are up early like I am, then of course it is also possible to allow yourself a few spooks at …

When we drove over the Oberalp Pass today. We just wanted to take a quick look. Then saw the sign indicating the origin of the Rhine and spontaneously rearranged it. It turned out to be a wonderful hike. But you absolutely have to be sure-footed and not afraid of heights here.
