This route was planned by komoot.
The trail offers a diverse and adventurous terrain. You'll encounter narrow, rooty paths, sandy sections, and moss-covered forest floors. It winds around and through unique sandstone rock formations, with some segments featuring rock crevices, steep faces, and even steel ladders and stairs to reach viewpoints. While mostly natural, there are also shorter sections of gravel, paved, and asphalt paths. Expect continuous ups and downs throughout the hike.
The trail is famous for its spectacular red sandstone formations, such as the Schiller Rock, Ungeheuer Rock, and Lämmerfels Rock Group. You'll also find magnificent panoramic vistas from spots like the Viewing chamber on the Büttelfels and Wachtfelsen Viewpoint, offering extensive views of the Palatinate Forest.
The Dahner Felsenpfad Trail is beautiful year-round, but spring and autumn are particularly recommended. In spring, the forest comes alive with fresh greenery, while autumn offers stunning foliage colors. These seasons also typically provide pleasant hiking temperatures.
The official starting point and main parking area for the Dahner Felsenpfad Trail is often at the Tourist Information Center in Dahn. There are usually well-marked parking facilities available there, providing convenient access to the trailhead.
Yes, the trail is generally dog-friendly. However, due to the adventurous terrain, which includes narrow paths, rock crevices, and sections with ladders and stairs, your dog should be agile and comfortable with such conditions. Always keep your dog on a leash, especially near rock formations and viewpoints, and be mindful of other hikers.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the Dahner Felsenpfad Trail or to access the Palatinate Forest Nature Park. It is freely accessible to the public, allowing you to enjoy its natural beauty without charge.
The trail is classified as moderate to hard, requiring good fitness and sure-footedness. It features continuous ascents and descents, with some sections described as demanding climbs and steep ascents. The adventurous path design, including ladders and stairs, adds to its challenge.
Yes, the route also passes through sections of other trails, including the Dahner Felsenpfad itself (100% of this route), the Eyberg-Tour, and the Seerosen-Tour. You might also encounter parts of the Kauert-Tour and the Dahner Rundwanderweg.
Yes, the trail passes by the Dahner Hütte, which offers a great opportunity for a break and refreshments. There are also other refreshment points along the route or in the nearby town of Dahn where you can find cafes and restaurants.
Its designation as a 'premium hiking trail' with the German Hiking Seal signifies a high-quality hiking experience. This includes excellent signage, a diverse landscape, and an adventurous path design that incorporates unique rock formations and thrilling elements like narrow paths and sections with ladders and stairs, ensuring a continuously varied and engaging hike.
The Dahner Felsenpfad Trail is designed as a circular route, meaning it's a loop trail. You'll start and end at the same point, allowing you to experience all its highlights without retracing your steps.
This morning there were wafts of mist as a welcome. Unfortunately, after breakfast we went home again ☹️ the holiday apartment in the ForellenHof Fischbach is really recommendable. Very nice hosts, cheap, clean and large 👍🏻 As a conclusion, wanted to do the famous Dahner Felsenland hiking trail. After Günter and Margot had already walked, we went alone. A really impressive way, wonderful paths, lots of ups and downs and gigantic rock formations. 🤩 A super nice corner in the Palatinate that we will definitely visit again ☺️🙋♀️🙋🏼
Today we went on another trip to the Southwest Palatinate. Off to the Dahner Felsenland. Walked the rock path. At least almost all the way. The weather was great, but the time was a bit late. I like to get there early. This morning, however, I dawdled. The parking spaces were really full, and we set off straight away with a larger hiking group. I almost wanted to turn around again 🙈 But after the first 1.5 km it was OK. Even though we met a lot of people. So next time, it's better to set off early again. Ordered pizza on the way home, which arrived just in time when we parked the car. Perfect. The dachshund club is now lying tired on the couch. They're kind of worn out 😂
Today I felt like I only looked at rocks 😀. Since my son and I have been traveling alone together for a long time, I wanted to offer him a nice tour. I succeeded. The tour was impressive and spectacular. I think the rock path increases immensely towards the back. The ascent on the Büttelfels was unfortunately closed because of the falcon brood. But after that it got really nice for me. At the Lammerfelsen the other hikers all walked down the main path. We stayed upstairs, it was beautiful with the low sun. They all missed something 😂. The view from the Wachtfelsen was also great. All in all, we made a very nice hike today. I understand Rita that she likes to escape from Dahn at the weekend. There were quite a few hiking groups on the road today. So if you can, you'd rather walk the rock path during the week 😉
We were on the Dahner Felsenpfad. Premium hiking trail that is well signposted. Very varied tour with beautiful views and distant views and always mega-imposing rocks. It was a very nice hike despite the heat 👍🏻😍
Now I finally saw it! A leisurely hike in over 30-degree heat along the Dahn Rock Trail. Very well signposted, with free parking, and the PWV Hut also offers a cozy and informative stop. Beautiful, impressive, and absolutely worthwhile, but I have to admit, the Dimbacher Buntsandsteinweg was more fun yesterday. 🙈. Nonetheless, a must-do hike that simply shouldn't be missed☺️ (Suunto: 480 m elevation gain & 15.7 km)
Dahner Felsenpfad...simply WOW😍! It doesn't happen too often, but this tour, which took us past bizarre rock formations and almost exclusively on natural paths, is simply fantastically beautiful. Start and finish was our Büttelwoog campsite https://www.camping-buettelwoog.de/ in Dahn in the Palatinate Forest. And as befits a hike, we ended up eating at https://www.felsengraf.de/. This hike deserves the grade "1" from us and thus gets 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟! The very good signage is also worth mentioning 👍. P.s.: @Bianca Thank you for the really good tip and greetings from Sweden 😉👍.
An overall nice tour that manages to combine paths, driveways and highlights so that walking doesn't get boring. Recommended without hesitation!
