Strenuous holiday tour (also with e-bike ☺️) along 3 different rivers: Inn, Salzach and Mattig!
Very nice round tour 🚴♀️ from Burghausen via Braunau to Mattigkofen and further via Eggelsberg and the Weilharter Forest back to the starting point. 😊👍. Lots to see, lots of places to stop for a break 🍺🥗 and beautiful, varied paths. I found the tour at @Freizeitführer AustroBayer, thank you very much for that 😊👍
The three cities of Braunau, Mattighofen and Burghausen can be explored as part of this varied tour. The tour begins in the heart of the historic old town of Braunau am Inn, on the town square, by the way, the largest of all Inn-Salzach towns. From here, following the Inn in the direction of flow, you come across the Mattig, which is small compared to the Inn, and whose gravel banks invite you to linger and splash about on hot summer days. Following the Mattig, we cycle past cultural and culinary treasures, such as the hedge maze in Uttendorf or the Vizthum private brewery to the Mattighofen area. In the future, a detour to the KTM Motohall, a mixture of museum and brand experience world, is particularly recommended. The journey continues over mountains and valleys through the rural cultural landscape. Passing the church in Hart, which is well worth seeing, you cycle in the direction of Eggelsberg, where the "Innviertler Dom" greets you from afar. Along the terminal moraine wall from the last ice age, where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Alps chain on a clear day, there is a brisk descent to Ibm, where you reach the Ibmer Moorweg R25. The path leads in the direction of Ibmer See and past the Geretsberg Peace Panorama through the mighty Weilhartsforst to Hochburg, where you can see the birthplace of F.X. Gruber, who wrote the world-famous Christmas carol "Silent Night" 200 years ago. The old Salzach Bridge takes you to Burghausen in Bavaria with the world's longest castle complex. Before Burghausen, near Ach, we recommend a stop at the panoramic view of the Burghausen Fortress. On the way from Burghausen back to Braunau, it is advisable to stop at the Inn-Salzach view and enjoy the panorama of the confluence of the Inn and Salzach. Before you reach the old town of Braunau again, you should definitely make a short detour to the former Augustinian monastery in Ranshofen. The 3 city tour R200 is a varied bike tour. It is mostly on tarmac and back roads. From Braunau, follow the R24 Mattigtalradweg until shortly before Mattighofen. Then you branch off in the direction of Pischelsdorf and Eggelsberg where it gets quite hilly. Unfortunately, from the Heratinger or Ibmer See it is no longer clearly described as the R200, but you follow either the R201 or the R25. At the Moorhof in Dorfibm/Franking I followed my instincts and discovered the right way to Hochburg R25 or R200 at the chapel in Geretsberg. Follow these two paths as far as Burghausen. From the Burgblick viewing platform in Hochburg Ach, you then return to Braunau along the Tauern cycle path. It was a bit hot but nice 🥰
Today I cycled the R200 "3 Cities Tour" cycle path. The description and GPS data can be found at https://www.oberoesterreich.at/oesterreich-tour/detail/430002308/r200-drei-staedte-tour-rundtour-ab-braunau.html. Although I already knew all the sections of the tour, today I cycled this beautiful loop in its entirety for the first time. I only deviated from the original route in Pischelsdorf, as a new cycle path was built there, which is not yet included in the route of the R200. The route is very beautiful and runs on cycle paths or side roads. The route is named after the three towns of Braunau, Mattighofen, and Burghausen. However, only in Braunau does you cycle through the center. In Mattighofen, you don't even get to the town sign, and you can only see Burghausen from the viewpoint in Duttendorf. The name is a bit misleading, but it remains a very nice, well-signposted tour through the Braunau district 😁
