A nice relaxed tour. Unfortunately, the path also runs on many forest roads. Overall, it's still fun to run. At the drinks station there is also punch and mulled wine during the current season 😎
Today I decided to go on a tour despite the not so great weather. But I had something to do beforehand. As I found a key 🔑 for the Parkhotel Adler Hinterzarten on the train yesterday, I stopped by to return it. If I was just at the reception and received a drink as a thank you, it was an excellent 5⭐️ hotel. I have not seen anything like it very often. Then I set off for the Säbelthomaweg Hinterzarten. It was dry with a lot of snow in places and also slippery sections. Before we really got going, there were a few animal companions like ducks and a squirrel. We then went up into the forest and past a few scout houses further up on snowy paths and cross-country ski runs where no one is using them anymore - too many green sections. There were also 2 ponds along the way, 1 small and 1 large. As I had already walked the path in summer, I saw another side which was also beautiful.
The first tour in the Black Forest. With many breaks, the tour could be completed despite all the hardships. And the tour is an absolute recommendation. Many highlights and great paths. This is how hiking should be! 🥾🏞😎
Hiking with a refreshing dip. The tour leads through the forest, across meadows, and to ponds. At the Mathisleweiher pond, the hardiest of enthusiasts can plunge into the cool water (even the hardiest of enthusiasts can do so in their own costume...😅). The Milchhisli (milk house) at the Häuslebauernhof (farm) offers a refreshing dip indoors. A fair two euros is added for each cold drink from the fountain (payment via PayPal is also new, so lucky for those with network access).
Unfortunately, I have to say that the Säbelthomaweg after apparently extensive forestry work no longer has anything in common with a premium path or with a leisurely hike. The majority of the round is completed on more or less wide gravel roads. I estimate that the natural parts of the trail are less than two kilometers in total. The last two kilometers account for around 80 percent of this. The highlights of the round are still worth seeing. However, since the tour lacks a view almost along the entire route and one cannot shake the impression over almost the entire length of the route that someone has intentionally driven a bulldozer down the path, one torments oneself with difficulty up the continuous climbs. The numerous newly installed or repaired seats do not improve the situation at all. On the contrary, they delay the drama even more. Therefore, unfortunately, my conclusion: Definitely no longer recommended!
Directions: I call that a relaxed round. From start to finish you are on beautiful and varied paths here. The path is named after Thomas Steiert, who was the village policeman in 1823. In his office he always wore a saber as part of his uniform, so that he was soon known only as the "saber thoma". There are therefore numerous information boards along the entire route with anecdotes from that time. After you have left the spa park including a number of playgrounds etc. behind you, the path first follows the Westweg. The first highlight is the Mathisleweiher, where you can take a leisurely break. There are beautiful reflections in the water to look at and you can even jump into the water if you feel like it. You then continue on the Westweg with its beautiful changing forest paths to the cottage farm. Shortly before the farm, you leave the forest and find a drinking bowl with nice seating and a brilliant view over the meadows and forests to the Feldberg tower. Then you leave the Westweg and turn in the direction of Windeckkopf. Again beautiful paths lead here to the mountain station of the Thoma lifts with an ingenious view down into the valley. The descent back down to the Kurpark is perhaps the most beautiful section of the route, as there are many beautiful rooty and narrow forest paths. These are briefly interrupted by an asphalt section that does not disturb you. Overall, a really entertaining circuit for almost everyone with gentle inclines and a good mix of beautiful paths, views and various highlights. The beginning of the hike with its numerous playgrounds and adventure trail is also particularly interesting for children. Parking spot: Paid parking spaces directly at the spa park (€ 4 / day ticket) Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
As most of you know, Philia is a real Black Forest girl. What could be more natural to use this beautiful holiday and late summer day for a trip to the Black Forest. To be more precise, to Hinterzarten. There we decided to take the Säbelthomaweg connoisseur path. This usually leads through pleasantly shady forest and past two lakes and on the second half it offers one or the other beautiful view. The path is well signposted, making it almost impossible to get lost. The route itself is not a particular challenge for either of us. So right, as the name suggests, to enjoy and let your mind wander. Unfortunately, there are no places to stop for a break on the way. Therefore, you should take a Vesper backpack with you.
