Cycling

The Pustertal cycle route is particularly suitable for family tours or a relaxed ride through a beautiful landscape along the Rienz. The entire route runs parallel to the railway tracks, so you can change trains at any time if necessary. From Innichen train station, follow the Drau cycle path to Toblach, where you will find the Drei Zinnen Nature Park House.

With fabulous views of the Pustertal and the surrounding peaks, you cycle to Lake Olang, the perfect place for a break. It goes steadily downhill, often through forests and then again through small towns. There are also several castles along the way. A highlight is the town of Bruneck with the castle of the same name and the historic streets.

After an exploration tour through the old town, you follow the Rienz and then a short stretch of the Gader. The only significant climb awaits you on the Kienberg. Back in the Rienz valley, you cycle past the Mühlbacher Klause to Mühlbach, the destination of this tour. You take the train back to the starting point in Innichen.

Three Peaks Nature Park Visitor Center

Highlight • Rest Area

In the Nature Park House you will find great exhibitions about the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites. It is mainly about the two nature parks Drei Zinnen and Fanes-Sennes-Prags. Of course you will get an insight into the nature of the region, but culture and geology are also topics, as is the time of the war on the Dolomites front. Admission is free!

Lake Valdaora (Olanger See)

Highlight • Lake

To the south of the reservoir, the gravel bike path runs along the shore. Boards, on which human rights are presented, accompany the way. This is introduced at the beginning with three boards and the words “Have children”.

View of Valdaora (Olang)

Highlight • Settlement

Olang (in Italian: Valdaora) is a small community with just over 3,000 inhabitants near Bruneck in eastern South Tyrol. When you are in Olang, you are surrounded by greenery. Here you will find wildly romantic mountains, white shining peaks of the Dolomites and rural gardens. A short (or longer) stop in this idyllic mountain village will definitely enhance your bike tour.

July 18, 2024,Tag 1 Toblach - Mühlbach
Today we are cycling on the Euro-Velo EV7: Munich-Venice cycle path along the Rienz on beautiful side roads to Mühlbach. We keep passing narrow places where the GPS fails due to a lack of "satellite view". Except for small sections, we always cycle on asphalt. Overall, the route is downhill, with a few smaller climbs sprinkled throughout. The route is …

What a wonderful and properly strenuous day! We set off in pleasantly overcast skies. Since the Corpus Christi festival is not a public holiday in Italy, it is celebrated today on Sunday. The houses are decorated with Tyrolean flags, the altars are prepared for the procession.
We leisurely cycle uphill through the Puster Valley. We follow the river Rienz. Suddenly, …

After yesterday's Brenner Pass, my legs still hurt. Luckily it was almost all uphill to Toblach. It was a very nice bike path following the Puster via Bruneck to Toblach

The 4th stage ran mainly through the Pustertal on beautiful paths along the Rienz.
We continued through Brunneck towards Olang at the lake where we took a short break.
Our destination today is Dobbiaco in still dry weather.

And we continue along the Rienz River, sometimes along old railway lines, past old (enchanted?) castles, and there!!!! - the Dolomites, now you can see them!!🥰 We leave Brunico and Lake Olang behind us. It drizzles a bit at times, but overall, the weather holds up🙏

Today we went from Mühlbach to Niederdorf just before Toblach. Through the beautiful Pustertal Today, with about the same mileage, we even climbed ten more meters. But much more pleasant to drive. Yesterday all along the main road. It was really terribly loud. This noise got me shattered. Today, on the other hand, we almost only went through the beautiful …
