Cycling

This beautiful circular tour starts at the Red Bull Ring and takes you past wide meadows and fields to the historic town of Judenburg.

From the starting point, you first cycle to Pöls, continuously uphill. A short but rapid descent then takes you into the Murtal. With regular ups and downs, you always cycle close to the river via Thalheim to Judenburg. It's worth taking a long break here, where you park your bike and stroll through the historic old town. There are several places to stop for refreshments.

With lots of new impressions, you then get back on the saddle and continue your bike tour. You cycle along the Mur and can once again enjoy great views of Judenburg when you look back. Through the Murwald, past the Kraftwert Fisching and Zeltweg, you then return to the Red Bull Ring, where you reach the starting point of the tour again.

Sternschanze Sauerbrunn

Highlight • Historical Site

In the immediate vicinity, above Sauerbrunn Castle, is the so-called Sternschanze. It is a small, early modern defensive structure in the shape of a four-pointed star, the likes of which were probably only very rarely built in Northern Europe. However, since the Sternschanze is located near the castle, it can be assumed that it served to protect it and to safely store valuables, as well as to serve as a place of refuge for the local population and the castle residents in times of war. The fortified Sternschanze was built in 1567.

Today I drove the Murtal circuit from "Take's Radl Murtal" (tour for me under planned tours: komoot.de/tour/434625090?ref=wtd).
It started at the Red Bull Ring (there are now busy preparations for the Moto GP) and led via Fohnsdorf to Pöls and on to Thalheim. The train went comfortably along to Judenburg.
There was a small reward: ice cream (perfect in the …

To kick off the holidays, we went on a fantastic tour through the beautiful Mur Valley. It was still quite chilly in the morning, and we weren't sure what kind of jacket to wear. A mix of clouds and sunshine made for a wonderful day. The second half of the day included a detour to the Red Bull Ring. We …
