Wonderful views, flowering meadows and interesting basalt formations are part of this tour. It starts at the village community center in Maar.
You hike along field paths past flowering grassland meadows and lush fields to the top of the Reuterberg, from where a wonderful panorama of the Vogelsberg opens up to you with a view as far as the Rhön. The path leads over grassland meadows, past scree slopes and small slopes through a depression below the Saustallkuppe into a valley where you can take a rest under a shady tree.
You can enjoy the view again as you climb up to the Bilskuppe, which is crowned with pine trees and lined with juniper and heathland and is visible from afar. There is a wooden lounger along the way to enjoy the landscape. You walk through the small-scale cultural landscape, past quiet forests, wooded areas and open spaces, to the Ossenberg. Here, mighty basalt blocks and a view as far as the Rhön await you. The way back over the top of the stone and down through lean grassland meadows takes you right through the historic center of Maar with the pretty half-timbered town hall and its carvings. Two inns offer a refreshing stop after the wonderful tour.
