Hiking

This fascinating circular excursion takes you to the historic traffic light of Capo Figari and through the most pristine areas of the Gallura coast. Given the parking ban at the start, you can get to the starting point either by car (leaving it at the Baracconi) or by train (arriving at Golfo Aranci and continuing on foot).

The walk begins in Cala Moresca, a picturesque cove overlooking the island of Figarolo, characterized by its pyramidal shape. Once through the large gate, follow the path to a crossroads. On the right, a 500 meter detour takes you to the former military batteries and Cala Greca, a corner of paradise. The path on the left climbs up to the panoramic north coast of Capo Figari.

From the saddle a path leads to Mount Ruju, from which you can take a two kilometer detour from the itinerary described here towards the center of Golfo Aranci. Returning to the main path, a steep track leads you between rocks and vegetation to the summit and traffic lights at Capo Figari.

Built in 1890, the lighthouse was used in 1932 by Guglielmo Marconi for the first shortwave radio transmission. After exploring the ruins, descend following the road which, with numerous hairpin bends, takes you back to the initial crossroads and to Cala Moresca.

Cala Moresca Beach

Highlight • Beach

Inside the protected area of the Capo Figari promontory there is Cala Moresca, a small enchanting inlet, with two beaches of fine golden sand that contrasts with the emerald sea.

The strips of sand are interspersed with rock formations that emerge from the water and overlook the island of Figarolo, whose characteristic pyramidal shape stands out on the horizon. This uncontaminated bay of great naturalistic value can be reached by leaving the car in a car park located a few hundred meters from the shore.

Abandoned Coastal Battery

Highlight • Historical Site

A very cool location. The buildings are still very well preserved. The view of the sea is very nice. I can recommend a visit in the evening just before sunset.

Capo Figari Semaphore

Highlight • Monument

The traffic light at Cape Figari is an abandoned navy structure awaiting redevelopment.

It was precisely in this traffic light, inaugurated in 1890, that Guglielmo Marconi even operated there in 1932 to carry out the first short-wave radio transmission.
