Hiking
This six-kilometer family hike offers a superb blend of nature, history and art. The discovery trail, developed by the Geopark of Haute-Provence, passes in front of an Art Refuge by the artist Andy Goldsworthy before reaching the chapel of Saint-Pancrace which overlooks the spa town of Digne-les-Bains.
The route begins in the thermal baths parking lot. Initially, the route joins the Col des Abeilles before making a detour via the ruins of the castle of Queen Jeanne. You then continue in the marls, sedimentary rocks which were at the bottom of the seas in the secondary era. Different thematic desks decorate this portion for the most curious.
You then discover the Art Refuge of the artist Andy Goldsworthy. This atypical construction offers refuge to hikers. It belongs to a 150 kilometer hiking trail. A mix of contemporary art (Land Art), hiking and rural heritage, it crosses the largest geological nature reserve in Europe.
Finally you reach the small restored chapel of Saint-Pancrace. Its orientation table provides a very beautiful view of Digne-les-Bains. Savor this panoramic view before returning by the same route.
