I would not have thought that the north of old Essen would be so green and so well developed.
Definitely not one of the most scenic routes, but very interesting and good to ride. Also for racing bikes

Today, in beautiful autumn weather, we tackled the railway line tour. Nice little circuit via the RS1, Nordsternweg, Zollvereinweg, Veltenbahn and Grugatrasse.
Great to ride on weekdays.

With a detour to the Zollverein colliery. Railway routes: Grugaweg, RheinischeBahn, Nordsternweg, Zollvereinweg / Schurenbachhalde, MTB slab trail there, not on route / MTB Bike Park 51,454 7,089.

Very easy tour to do. There isn't much to see, but you are always surrounded by greenery. Extremely soothing and highly recommended for non-Ruhr residents, so that the clichés about the Ruhr area can be put out of your head.

Today, again in sunny spring weather 🌞, we are going on the following routes:
🚂 Grugaweg
🚂 Cycle expressway
🚂Rhenish Railway
🚂 Zollvereinweg
🚂 Veltenbahn
A nice tour to drive 🚴 ♂️ except for a few 100m along Gladbecker Straße 🙉, which were unavoidable.
It can now be driven along the Berne again.
It's still a bit up and down …

In hardly any other region in Germany are there as many railway cycle paths as in the Ruhr area. No car traffic, moderate inclines, and little worry about getting lost – that's what makes cycling on railway lines so popular with cyclists. On this tour, you'll experience four different routes.
