September 18, 2024,Rund um Kettwig mit Abstecher in die Altstadt
With pleasant temperatures and a very brisk wind, we went on a hike around Kettwig with a detour to the old town.
Beautiful forest paths as well as paved paths characterize the hike.
You could simply "enjoy" the far-reaching views from the viewing points. 🌳🌲😊

Start at the old Kettwig train station,
Promenade on the Ruhr,
Historic old town,
at Wetzelsberg (in the forest),
Meisenburgerstrasse,
Unterstand (a small settlement),
Kammesheidt,
in the Ruthertal.
The disadvantage of this hike is that there is a relatively large amount of asphalt.

This beautiful snowy landscape near Kettwig is simply magnificent. While the weather wasn't ideal for taking stunning photos, this lovely loop was perfect for a short hike in the fresh air. The tour begins at the parking lot in front of the Kettwig swimming pool. It follows wonderful hiking trails, including the Kettwig Panorama Trail, and winds through woods and …

The first 2 km were along the road. After that, however, it was a worthwhile tour. I am always amazed at how beautiful the Ruhr area is, and especially Essen.

Today I participated in the free hiking event in Essen. The starting point was moved from the Zollverein colliery to the Essen outdoor swimming pool. On the Kettwigerroute there were 5 stamping points around Kettwig. A very nice event with something for everyone. Those interested can find more information at the following link:

This joint tour was also planned in advance by @Carli72 🥾🌳🚲.

From the swimming pool parking lot, we walked along the Brederbach stream to the Schuirbach stream and on to the Kettwig city forest and the Ruhr River Trail.

There, we enjoyed a currywurst and fries at the restaurant by the Kattenturm tower. The decor was a bit old-fashioned, but …

I'm wondering about the planning. Why does the tour run along the main road (Meisenburgstrasse) in the north, when it's much more pleasant to hike along the Kettwiger Panoramasteig trail along the Springer Teich pond.
