Cycling

This relaxed bike tour has almost no inclines and is ideal for families with children. On well-maintained paths, the route leads from Bruneck along the Ahr River through small villages to Sand in Taufers – always accompanied by green meadows and views of the Löffler and Schwarzenstein glaciers.

Right at the beginning, a detour to Bruneck Castle and the Messner Mountain Museum Ripa is worthwhile. If you like, you can save the visit for the return journey. Various water features along the route invite you to cool off – such as the banks of the Ahr River, the "Baggalocke" swimming lake in Gais, or the Thara fishing pond.

A special highlight just before the destination are the Reinbach Waterfalls. A short walk of about 20 minutes leads to the first waterfall – a fantastic experience for all ages. Once you arrive in Sand in Taufers, it's worth visiting the imposing Taufers Castle and stopping off at one of the cafés or restaurants in town. The return journey is a relaxing one along the same route.

View of Taufers Castle

Highlight • Viewpoint

From down here you have a beautiful view of Taufers Castle. If you don't mind a little detour and a few steep, rocky steps, you can also take a tour for little money. The castle was built on a rock in the 13th century and separates the Tauferer Valley from the Ahrntal Valley.

Sand in Taufers village center

Highlight • Settlement

The castle is the town's eye-catcher, but Sand in Taufers also has a lot to offer. In the nature park house you can find information about the mountains and their inhabitants. There are museums about sheep's wool and minerals. And in summer there are lots of culinary activities such as the Tauferer street kitchen and the cheese festival.

With free admission, you can also just take a quick look around the Nature Park House or at least watch the film from an eagle's perspective. In the exhibition, you can learn a lot about the world of the 3,000-meter peaks. There is a relief of the mountains, lots of information about the geology and biology of the region, but also funny examples of the regional dialect.

Information about opening times can be found here: naturparks.provinz.bz.it/de/naturparkhaus-rieserferner-ahrn.
