Three stamps, magnificent views, wonderful trails, and plenty of elevation gain await you on this short loop. Unfortunately, there's a very steep descent at the end, which isn't entirely safe. Otherwise, it's absolutely recommended.👍👍👍
On May 14th, to mark Hiking Day, the town of Heiligenstadt offered a hike to the Dün Kreuz—the top-rated Dün Panorama hiking trail. My sister and I decided at short notice to join the hike with Helmut Heiland at 6 p.m. What can I say...😍😍😍😍...the pictures speak for themselves 😎🌞🌄🥾🥾🎒🌳🌲♟️📗🧀🍇🥨🍷✝️...it was an all-round successful hike with other lovely hiking enthusiasts and some information from the hiking guide. Great weather, stunning scenery, friendly people, good food and drinks 😉, a fantastic sunset, and all this in the middle of the week at 6 p.m.—a great way to end a day at work. Many thanks also to the hiking association for the great pin, the waffles and flower seeds... THANK YOU to everyone who made it possible to spend a great evening, it was balm for the soul... I have been to Dünkreuz several times, but today it was something special
Worked until 2pm today, then drove for 2 hours to Eichsfeld and did a small but lovely hike in the truest sense of the word 👍😊 Our first hike in Eichsfeld, specifically Heilbad Heiligenstadt, especially for German Hiking Day, a beautiful landscape 🌳🌲 Today's top hiking trail Dünpanorama was really great 👍🔝 Most of the time the path was on a narrow forest path, almost quite steeply uphill to Dünkreuz 🥵 through deciduous forest, the sun was shining through the trees. Simply fantastic. Beautiful views of Heiligenstadt, but unfortunately a bit too cloudy, the Brocken view was not visible either 😏. At our late hour there were hardly any hikers around 😁, it was a great start to the weekend 😃🌞🔝
We started the first hike 🥾 🥾of our hiking weekend at the free parking lot 🅿️ at the town entrance. After a nice short climb, we reached the Brockenblick⛰️, unfortunately without a Brocken, too many clouds☁️☁️. Then we went to the Dünenkreuz ✝️, where you can enjoy an impressive view of the 1,050-year-old capital 🏙️ of the Eichsfeld region. We walked downhill on the nature trail 🌲🪵🌳 through the Dachstal valley 🦡 back to Heilbad Heiligenstadt. From there, we drove 5 ⏳minutes to the next free hiking parking lot, Neun Brunnen, where we'll start our next hike tomorrow.
"Fairytale hiking in the Eichsfeld" was the motto from Tuesday to Thursday: The first stop on the day's journey to Heilbad Heiligenstadt was the Teistungen Borderland Museum. Here, we wanted to collect a single Touringen stamp on the short official route...think about it, there was still a bit of a borderland trail to cover before #342 could be immortalized at Pferdeberg. For once, we returned the same way, because before checking in, the Dün Panorama hiking trail beckoned: At the end of the ridge on the northwestern edge of the Thuringian Basin, a roughly 5 km circular trail awaited us, with slightly steep climbs to magnificent viewpoints. Via the sun break at Brockenblick #394 (yes, you can see it from here too - but the highlight is the magnificent panoramic bench!) you reach a wooden cross #395, about 13 m high, on the Dünplateau, 200 meters above Heiligenstadt. Also known locally as the "Schöne Aussicht," this offers a wonderful view down to the town in the Leine Valley, to the Iberg with the Elisabethhöhe, and in the background, the conical Rusteberg. A place steeped in history, meant to commemorate the homecoming and the end of World War II...and my exam subject, Erich Kästner, once again finds the right words (photo #33) to describe this dreamy spot. Furthermore, small paths with a Harz feel wind through the Dünwald, which has become very light in places, down into the Dachstal, where the last green box, #396, awaited us. Conclusion: Here, "without borders," there's a lot to discover in a short distance...paths like the Eselsstieg or the Bärenpfad, the remains of the Dünwarte, limestone wall formations like the Bärenhöhle, and a parking lot with paved hiker markings. However, for a top hiking trail, I would deduct a few points. because there is a very steep, washed-out descent here, which is not entirely safe - here, on the dusty, slippery track with mandrake roots, either quadruped walking, poles or courage to take a gap will help🙈
After the tour over the TOP Warteberg hiking trail, I made my way to Dünkreuz. The less than 5 km long loop was perfect for an evening walk with panoramic views of Heiligenstadt. At the top of the cross I enjoyed the view of the sea of lights before heading back to the starting point. Nice little tour, on which you can take along great views and three Touringen stamps.
Small, cozy walk in the autumn forest with beautiful views of Heiligenstadt.
