The southern route – La Graciosa

Hiking

The starting point of the Route is Caleta del Sebo, in La Graciosa, a charming town that still preserves the typical architecture of the islands and its picturesque dirt streets. It is recommended that you fill your backpack with enough food and water supplies to last the entire day, as the opportunities to find places to stock up are limited.

During the circular itinerary, you have the chance to explore the south of this beautiful island. The Route covers approximately 12 kilometers and does not present technical difficulties, although in some areas you may encounter sandy terrain.

The beginning of this exciting adventure takes you across the island until you reach the west coast, which you travel south until you reach the top of Montaña Amarilla. This climb, barely a kilometer long, is demanding but rewarding. The reward awaits at the summit, where you find a palette of reddish and yellow tones that merge with the turquoise blue of the ocean, gently caressing the coast.

During the last stretch, you will find paradisiacal beaches, with their fine white sand surrounded by a simply spectacular landscape. Before finishing the Route, we invite you to try its revitalizing waters.

Caleta del Sebo

Highlight • Settlement

Caleta del Sebo is the only town in La Graciosa and it is where the ferries arrive from Órzola. It is a very quiet town with sandy streets, white houses, and some restaurants where you can have a drink.

View from Montaña Amarilla

Highlight • Viewpoint

Montaña Amarilla is the southernmost volcano on La Graciosa. With its almost 175 meters high, the summit offers unbeatable views of the rest of the island, as well as the Famara cliff and Lanzarote. At the foot, the turquoise waters of La Cocina beach contrast with the yellow and reddish tones of this mountain.

The gulls at the top are unaccustomed to eating what tourists throw away, so they can be a bit intrusive at times.

La Cocina Beach

Highlight • Beach

Cocina beach is probably one of the jewels of La Graciosa. With only 100 meters in length, it is located in a unique natural setting. At the foot of Montaña Amarilla, the waters of this beach are sheltered, making it an idyllic place for a peaceful bath. It is one of the best corners of the island to appreciate the contrast of colors: the yellow of sulfur, the black of lava flows, the red of the earth and the turquoise blue of the sea.

Playa Francesa

Highlight • Beach

This beach is on the south side of the island and is relatively sheltered from the wind. From here there are magnificent views of Lanzarote. The beach is quite long and spacious. At high tide you can see some marshes and lagoons.

The small lagoon

Highlight • Lake

This lagoon, located between Salado and Francesa beaches, appears at high tide. It is the habitat of the Kentish Plover, a small wader bird that feeds and nests on sandy beaches and coastal lagoons. It is very easy to see them grouped when there is little amount of sand.

When the tide is out, you can see a large sandy esplanade. However, you should not leave the path at any time, as you could step on the eggs of these little birds.

February 11, 2026,Auf steilem Grat und losen Geröll: Abenteuer La Graciosa
Our route takes us to the south side of the island. It's hard to believe, but we hardly encounter a soul. La Graciosa is only eight kilometers long and five kilometers wide – but impossible to explore entirely on foot.

Showing Translation

The climb up Amarilla mountain is challenging due to the slippery terrain.

To take the proposed tour, find out about the low tide timetable. We had to turn around and cut inland. The beaches are fabulous and no one at that time
