Cycling

‌Dive into the culture of the Baltic Sea holiday region on this varied round tour and find out what the North German art of living is all about. On the KulTour you cycle past old estates, high towers, exciting museums and wonderful natural areas. The local flavors are also not neglected in the many cafés, farm shops and restaurants along the way. You can also divide the 60-kilometer route into two or three stages for more intensive cultural enjoyment.

You start at the region's cultural landmark, the Dahmeshöved lighthouse. From here you can enjoy a sea view into the Baltic Sea resort of Dahme with its lively promenade and beautiful beach. After you have passed the tranquil village of Grube and the Koselau estate, you will immerse yourself in the Oldenburger Bruch natural experience area. A little later, it's worth taking a detour to Oldenburg in Holstein, where the next highlight awaits: In the Oldenburg Wall Museum you can get to know the life of the Slavs in the early Middle Ages.

After visiting the Wall Museum, you drive through a picturesque cultural landscape to Lensahn with the museum courtyard, which is worth seeing. Via Manhagen we go to the “cultural capital” of the OstseeFerienLand, Cismar. In the imposing monastery there you can not only visit historical buildings and a café, but also an art exhibition. You then slowly approach the coast again. In Grönwoldshorst, the Domnick game room invites you to stop before you meet wild boars in the Kellenhusener Forest - don't worry, they live in an enclosure. Through Vogelsang you get back to the starting point in Dahme.

Dahmeshöved Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

Nice lighthouse between Dahme and Kellenhusen. Can be approached either on a walk or a bike ride.

The Dahmeshöved lighthouse stands on a coastal promontory about halfway between Fehmarn and Travemünde.

The octagonal tower was built entirely from bricks in 1878 and 1879. It is 28.8 meters high, which means that the beacon is 33.7 meters above sea level.

The neighboring smaller brick tower was built in 1939 to give the lighthouse keeper an opportunity to monitor the visibility.

During the German-German division, the Dahmeshöved lighthouse had a special meaning for the GDR citizens, because it was a point of reference when escaping across the Baltic Sea as the so-called "light of freedom".

Those who are more interested in the lighthouse can also visit it with an expert guide. The opening times - in the season from April to October - are: Sunday to Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. every half hour.

Oldenburg Rampart Museum

Highlight • Historical Site

The Slavic settlement of Starigard was once located on today's museum grounds - here you can immerse yourself in the life of the Slavs in the early Middle Ages. Visit the reconstructed houses, several exhibitions and the impressive ring wall. Medieval events often take place on weekends during the summer months.

You can find more information at oldenburger-wallmuseum.de.

I would rather describe "Hof Hagen" as a cozy farm shop with an attached gastronomic area. You can buy all sorts of knick-knacks, accessories, etc. there. They serve simple dishes, coffee, and cake.

Beautiful monastery, today a branch of the state museum. The monastery café is recommended. Awarded by Feinschmecker as one of the best in Germany.
