Hiking

Untouched nature, fascinating rock formations and views framed by wooded paths give this Teuto loop its unique charm. A few meters of elevation await you over a short distance, but you will hardly notice them against the backdrop of the wild and romantic hike.

It starts at the Dörenther Klippen hiking car park. If you arrive by public transport, the S50 and R21 bus lines take you to the Dörenther Berg stop.

The path takes you straight to its namesake, the impressive Dörenther Klippen. As soon as the path meets the Hermannsweg, it is worth taking a detour to another rock formation, the legendary Squatting Woman. Do you recognize the mother frozen in stone in the rock? If you are already hungry, you can find snacks and cold drinks in the Almhütte forest snack bar. You definitely shouldn't miss the view from the restaurant's viewing platform.

The route then meanders further along the Kammweg, leaving it here and there and later meeting the Hermannsweg again. The summit of the Dreikaiserstuhl is another worthwhile detour.

As soon as you have circled the Schweinskopf mountain, you go back in the other direction and past an iron spring from which rust-red water colors the ground in contrast. With a great view, you finally hike back along the other side of the slope to the car park and guest house.

The Dörenther Cliffs boast impressive rock formations and mysterious myths. Bizarre sandstone cliffs of all sizes and shapes, rising enchantingly up to 40 meters, line the narrow ridge paths.

Crouching Woman

Highlight • Natural Monument

From the path where you can park your bike (or at the alpine hut), you can walk a short distance to the Dörenther Klippen. If you dare, climb up a bit and admire the Hockendes Weib rock formation.

Alpine hut at the Dörenther Cliffs

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Very nice cabin with good opportunities for a break. The prohibition signs on the way there have been set up "wild" - the Hermannsweg may also be used with mountain bikes.

Dreikaiserstuhl

Highlight • Natural Monument

An interesting rock formation where climbers can often be seen. Or you can simply use one of the rocks for a rest and a picnic during a hike on the Hermannsweg.

Iron Spring Brochterbeck

Highlight • Natural Monument

The iron spring, a geological specialty of Brochterbeck, runs under a small wooden bridge. Here the iron content is so high that it is visible to everyone.

You can really see a lot and especially in width. The power plant with the large chimneys in contrast to the tiny little houses captivates the eye.

Today the next loop hike - this time to the west. Also a nice route, unfortunately the inn was closed (Monday stop). The rocks are nice, but as a connoisseur of the Dahner Felsenland in the Palatinate Forest you are of course spoiled.

What a great day, with some lovely sunshine every now and then. And 2 super enthusiastic boys running up the hill while their mothers trudged along behind... 😀

Today I went on a wonderful hike in the Münsterland with Mathias. The tour included a lot. Forest hiking trails, paths through meadow orchards, breathtaking rock formations, fantastic views, a stop on the alp,... In short, a premium hiking trail. Right next to the alpine hut is the impressive rock formation: "Hockende Weib". The desire to climb automatically arises. According to legend, a mother turned to stone to save her children from the approaching floods. The rocks that make up the Dörenther cliffs with the "crouching woman" were still loose sand on the beach 135 million years ago. After the sand solidified into stone, the strata were bent and erected.

The Teuto Loop is a very beautiful and varied trail. There are always magnificent views and beautiful glimpses of nature. The loop is simply fun. If you like, you can also walk around the "Hockende Weib" (Squatting Woman). However, we skipped that, so this short section isn't recorded. In prolonged wet weather, you can expect muddy ground in places. Appropriate footwear is recommended.

Nice Sunday outing. It was worth it to escape the rain with us and drive a few kilometers by car 🚙.

Let's continue ⚫️⚪️🔵 Hermann's high-altitude trail🧭🍀Today the weather is playing along ☀️and lo and behold, the East Westphalian is also heading out the door. Tach instead of Moin Moin 🫣not so easy 😅😅 Oh, it's so beautiful here, why did I ever leave 😂😂😂And there's another alpine hut here ☕️

Today it was the Teutoschleife Dörenther Klippen's turn. Since it was supposed to cloud over in the afternoon, I decided to set off at 10 am. Everything done right, another tour in the best weather with lots of sunshine. This loop is also beautiful, but not as varied as the Holperdorp loop. The first 5 kilometers were mainly on forest highways. The remaining 5 kilometers then over narrower paths and trails, which I liked better. But all in all, it was another beautiful tour☀️🥾🍀

The piece of Teutoburger Wald between the Dörenther Klippen and Tecklenburg around the picturesque village of Brochterbeck is now one of the most visited hiking areas in this region by me. Usually I just set out a nice route here myself, but this time I decided to walk one of the famous Teutoschleifen. And I was pleasantly surprised! It's all in the name at the Teutoschleife Dörenther Klippen. Anyone who likes impressive, bizarre rock formations (and not just the Dörenther Klippen itself), beautiful views and beautiful natural forests has come to the right place. I thought I had seen everything here (although it never gets boring here), but I still passed new, surprisingly beautiful places! With 9.5 km and around 250 meters in altitude, this walking route is ideal for a challenging day (partial) trip not far from the border with the Netherlands. You pass all the famous rock formations of the 'Klippen', of which the easily accessible Hockende Weib is by far the most popular among day trippers and families. Once past here it quickly becomes quieter. The other rock formations, including the Dreikaiserstuhl and the plateau of the Brochterbeckblick with its beautiful view are just as beautiful. But the route also takes you along the south side of the ridge where you keep walking in and out of the forest along beautiful rolling fields full of grain and flowers. I had never visited that part before and I thought it was very beautiful. Halfway through the route you will pass the Almhütte, where you can enjoy a delicious cold drink or snack with a beautiful view towards the Münsterland. Even without a snack it is worth taking a look here. As you can expect in Germany, and especially in the Teutoburger Wald, the route is well marked (on trees, rocks and posts) and signposted. Getting lost here is impossible. I started the walk from the parking lot in the Bocketal, opposite the campsite. This is my default starting place for walks in this region, but you can actually start anywhere along the route.
