This route was planned by komoot.
The slightly too warm weather invites you to cycle. So we set off past castles and villages on the Scheldt. We base ourselves on the Scheldt Castles cycling route (https://www.scheldeland.be/fietsen-scheldekastelen) but adapt it slightly so that we can leave from home. We have omitted the Hof castle in Melis in Lippelo because it was too close to us and well known. Along the way we see a lot of the Scheldt, a few castles and forts, picturesque villages, but also a lot of greenery. And we can enjoy some shady cycle paths.
Very nice bike ride in the Puurs region. For part of the journey, you follow the Scheldt and pass the Breendonk fort, Ursel castle and the Bornem and Liezele forts. A large part of the route is on cycle paths, which makes it very pleasant. Recommended in good weather for the coolness of the route.
As the penultimate tour of our holiday in Belgium, we did the Scheldt dike bike tour today. Half of the tour goes directly along the dyke along the Scheldt, with a view of the water. Just the way I like it. 🤗 After we were diverted after just a few kilometers and thus away from the dike, I was initially disappointed. But then we arrived in the tunnel with the beautiful animal graffiti - and I felt more than compensated. I have never seen such pictures anywhere - and I thought they were great! The tour went next to the Scheldt dike through small Belgian towns that invited to drink coffee ☕️ and mostly have beautiful, imposingly large churches, and through forest areas, again with the tree-lined avenues that are so typical here in Flanders. We especially liked the alpacas, which we met at two points on the tour. The "Sheldedijkroute" is well signposted with its own symbol, so you don't necessarily have to rely on the komoot navigation.
A quiet bike ride along the Scheldt and back through Klein Brabant. Correspond with the Scheldt dike route. Cycle junctions followed: 66 - 11 - 10 - 67 - 76 - 8 - 6 - 5 - 3 - 2 - 1 - 54 - 31 - 20 - 35 - 36 - 37 - 27 - 80 - 81 - 88 - 66. At least that was intention. However, the towpath was interrupted near the Groot Schoordijk. The detour for cyclists brought us back to the towpath past the works via Hingene village without any problems.
