Cycling

The starting point of the circular tour is in Gunzenhausen. From here you cycle on a relatively flat route along the Altmühl towards the southeast. Then you leave the river for a moment to take a detour to Wolfsbronn. It's worth taking a break here with a detour to the “Steinerne Rinne”.

Then it goes back to the Altmühl via Markt Berolzheim. You follow her to Treuchtlingen. Then you head into the hilly region of the Hahnenkamm, where some challenging climbs await you. After happy ups and downs, a rapid descent finally takes you to the Hahnenkammsee. You can take a well-deserved break on the shore.

We then continue via Helchingen am See to Heidenheim. From here a final, steep climb takes you up to Spielberg Castle. Afterwards you can look forward to long descents back to the Altmühltal and to the starting point in Gunzenhausen. To end the tour in style, it is worth visiting the Altmühlsee.

Treuchtlingen Castle

Highlight • Castle

Today the spa and tourist information is located in the small Renaissance castle. The statue of the equestrian general Gottfried Heinrich zu Pappenheim stands in the moat of the Treuchtlingen city palace, where he was born in 1594. Gottfried Heinrich Graf zu Pappenheim was a general in the Thirty Years War who fought for the Catholic League and the Habsburg Emperor under Wallenstein's command. The well-known, originally positive expression goes back to him: "This is how I recognize my Pappenheimers".

View of Spielberg Castle

Highlight • Castle

In addition to the castle from the 15th century, which is already worth seeing, there is a museum for contemporary art established in 1983. The exhibition shows sculptures, pictures and a figure meadow. From the castle you have a very nice view of the surrounding country to Gunzenhausen. schlossspielberg.de/index.html

Another tour to the Hahnenkammsee.
From the Spielberg castle/palace complex you have an impressive panoramic view.
We continue to Heidenheim to the monastery.
In Hechlinger a path leads to the Kappl.

This time, however, we first drove to the Hahnenkammsee.
The hollow road is also interesting.

We continue towards Graben and back to Gunzenhausen.
