Gandria Village on Lake Lugano

Highlight • Settlement

Gandria is a small but lovely village not far from Lugano and easily accessible on foot. It used to live off oil production and fishing, and today the picturesque village center is still intact.
Once upon a time there was a picturesque village on the banks of the Ceresio that lived off fishing and oil production. The village still exists, but it no longer lives off fishing and olive oil production alone. We are talking about Gandria, which today belongs to Lugano and is one of the most beautiful lakeside villages in Ticino. Its history goes far back into the past, and residential buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries with unique frescoes and stucco work can still be admired today.

May 6, 2021, Monte Brè - Gandria - Lugano inkl. Olivenweg

With the funicular from Lugano-Cassarate to Monte Brè where the hike begins. It only goes downhill on stairs and through beautiful forest paths. Lunch in Gandria with a view of Lake Lugano is recommended. Then you walk in the direction of Lugano through the "Sentiero dell'olivo" (olive path). Parking at Padiglione Conza.

You need to allow yourself enough time for the train up, so you first have to wait in line at the ticket office until everyone has figured out how the machine works and then again at the intermediate station. But the wait is worth it, you are rewarded with a fantastic view and the cold beer in the restaurant puts us in a better mood. The walk to Gandria is quite a challenge, the different steps are really tough on the legs. Gandria is a beautiful fishing village and there are lovely restaurants where you can eat something delicious. A great trip and after 5 p.m. it quickly got dark on the way home, but the beautiful path along the lake is even lit.

Leisurely hiked to Monte Brè. Car parked at the Ospedale Italiano. Free on weekends. Made a break in the Grotto Castagneto and enjoyed a cold platter of Ticino specialties. From Monte Brè, took the funicular back to Lugano. Parking: via Pietro Capelli Lugano An alternative would be the parking garage at the hospital.
