Bellême is not the largest town in Perche, but it is one of the most beautiful. After discovering its pretty center, another jewel of the regional park reveals itself to you. This is the large national forest located to the north of the town. Among the trees, you come across the Etang de la Herse and its beautiful reflections.
After this first hilly part, you find flat sections in the middle of the fields. This section lasts around thirty kilometers, until returning to the forest of Bellême and arriving in another charming village, La Perrière.
Midway, this location can be a good choice for an overnight stay if you want to split the route in two. With nearly 100 kilometers and more than 1,000 meters of ascent, the route is not within everyone's reach. It would also be an opportunity to spend an entire weekend in Perche.
Whether or not you rest at La Perrière, be prepared to tackle several climbs on the second half of the route. The elevation gain is concentrated there, but the effort is worth it. The region's hilly landscape reveals delightful panoramas of the Percheron countryside.
To make the experience even more pleasant, I made some modifications to the official markings in order to avoid some busier roads. If you want to take my suggestions into account, follow the GPS track available on komoot. Otherwise, the signs for the Quiet Routes of Perche will get you there.
