Gravel riding

The area around Livigno offers gravel bikers a wealth of possibilities. One of them leads through the picturesque Val Viola to Switzerland and back again. You'll tackle fine gravel roads and asphalted roads. But there is also a challenging single trail descent. Only those who don't mind things getting rough should consider this route. Excellent driving skills are also essential on the descent.

Is that exactly your thing? Perfect! The starting point is in a parking lot above Livigno. After a quick section on the road, you turn onto a trail where you climb a whopping 300 meters in altitude. You then roll to Arnoga via a stylish S1 single trail and a really nice gravel path.

Ten kilometers follow through the pretty Val Viola. You overcome around 650 meters of altitude on the finest gravel - a real gravel dream! At an altitude of 2,489 meters you have reached the highest point of this tour and the Pass da Val Viola. This is followed by a single trail descent, which is a piece of cake on a mountain bike, but really challenging on a gravel bike. If your gravel bike has suspension elements, you will manage this section much more relaxed. Wide tires with low air pressure also provide an extra dose of grip.

When you arrive at the Refugio SAC Saoseo, the difficult part is already behind you. Then you wind your way up the road, bend by bend, to the Bernina Pass. Shortly before the top of the pass you branch off onto a trail. The last 200 meters in altitude you then roll relaxed again on the road uphill to Forcola di Livigno. Here you can replenish your energy reserves in the Refugio Tridentina before you head back to Livigno.

The descent from the Val Viola Pass is a piece of cake with the MTB, but really tricky with the Gravel: rough, but still a lot of fun. 😎
