Attention gravel fans! The Col de la Bonette is not only a worthwhile destination for racing cyclists. If you would like to climb this peak on lonely paths and are not put off by the coarse gravel terrain, I can highly recommend this gravel variant to the Col de la Bonette.
Curious? Then grab your gravel bike and off you go. You leave the charming town of Barcelonnette on asphalt roads towards Col de la Cayolle. You follow this impressive Alpine pass to Bayasse, where your gravel fun begins a little later.
What comes next is certainly not a walk in the park. The gravel road is rough, steep and challenging. The great thing is that it leads through an enchanting, lonely landscape – an Alpine idyll par excellence! After almost eleven kilometers and 850 meters in altitude, the path spits you out onto the pass road. The peace and quiet is over for now. The last few meters to the pass sign are on asphalt. At 2,715 meters you reach the famous summit and also the highest point of the tour.
After the obligatory photo stop, you speed down on smooth tar, rolling past the old barracks and the Lac des Eissauprés. In no time you'll be down in Jausiers and a little later back in Barcelonette.
