May 19, 2024, Great Whernside from Kettlewell — Yorkshire Dales National Park

Great Whernside, from Kettlewell — Yorkshire Dales National Park  A lovely hike up to the summit of Great Whernside from picturesque Kettlewell village. What a cracking peak to do on a nice sunny day. The walk up from the picturesque village of Kettlewell is scenic and not that long a journey, about four and a half kilometres each way. Not a jagged peak of any kind, just a nice rolling hill, topped with the obligatory good old-fashioned trig point. At 704 metres, it is easily a UK-designated Nuttall. A 9-kilometre hike with 500 metres of acent was done in 2 hours, 45 minutes. Then there was another visit to Hellgill waterfall for some nice sunny day photos.  Parking: Good car park with toilets at the start point (but busy on the weekend).  Route Description: A bit of road, but mainly good quality tracks and paths, a bit boggy on the higher points maybe. Good scenic views.  Route Statistics: 9 kilometres with 500m of height gain done in 2 hours 45 minutes.
