Adapted from the Grande Traversée du Jura mountain bike route, this gravel route connects the Morez stations to Bellegrade-sur-Valserine.
From Morez, you gain height to reach Bellefontaine. En route, admire the beautiful Saint-Renobert church and its Comtois bell tower typical of the Jura.
You continue on a small road to the Chalet des Ministers which marks the start of a magnificent gravel section in the heart of the fir forest.
After this sublime part carried out on the plateau, the route goes back down to the Rousses station.
The rest of the route passes through Prémanon. Just like Les Rousses, you are here in a Mecca for cross-country skiing. You follow the curves of the Haut Crêt road on the slopes of Mont Fier.
You then pass through Lake Lamoura. It is the highest lake in the Jura, located at an altitude of 1,100 meters. The place offers exceptional biodiversity.
You continue on a plateau to the highest village in the Jura, Lajoux. Located in the heart of Hautes Combes, it is surrounded by splendid and unique landscapes. You cross spruce and fir forests.
The Roche Fauconnière promontory marks the start of the final descent. Enjoy this magnificent view of the Semine valley before beginning the last part of this escapade in the heart of the Jura forests.
The descent leads to the Valserine gorges. This river has carved out the limestone rock and sculpted surprising places including the Pont des Pierres which you are taking.
The route ends in Bellegarde-sur-Valserine. It is the fourth city of Ain. The town has a rich architectural and historical heritage. From here you can take a train to Geneva or Lyon.
