This small six-kilometer loop explores the surroundings of Theizé. This charming village of Pierres Dorées is perched on the slopes of Mont Bancillon. The route combines heritage discovery, vineyards and undergrowth. It is aimed at a wide audience thanks to its relatively flat topography.
The route begins with the famous Château de Rochebonne. Located on the heights of the village, this fortified castle imposes its structure, with these two large towers on either side of the building. From the castle terrace you can enjoy lovely views of the vineyards further south.
The route then goes up to the summit of Bancillon. Along the way, beautiful parts of the undergrowth await you before leading to the tracks of the GR de pays which links Beaujolais to Bugey.
On the way, you come across a few young people. These small dry stone constructions are typical of the region. They once served as shelter for winegrowers or for storing tools during work in the vineyards.
Subsequently, the path of planted stones winds through the middle of the vineyards and offers a beautiful panorama of the wine-growing lands as well as the village of Oingt, located further north. This is classified among the most beautiful villages in France and if you want to visit it I invite you to consult Tour n°7 of this Collection: https://www.komoot.com/fr-fr/ tower/1375098932
The end of the route goes down south of Theizé and passes near the Rapetour castle before going back up into the village. This part opening onto the vineyards is very pleasant and punctuates this hike in a beautiful way.
