Hiking
This hike takes you to encounter history. The route explores one of the best-known mountains of Beaujolais: Mont Brouilly.
Famous for its vineyards and its AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée), this emblematic hill is home to the Notre-Dame-aux-Raisins chapel at its summit. It was built in honor of the Virgin Mary, invoked by winegrowers to protect their crops against disease and bad weather. It has become a place of pilgrimage for winegrowers and a symbol of their devotion and connection with the land.
Departing from Odenas, the route begins in the vineyards to the south of the hill. You pass next to the Château de Pierreux, known for the quality of its wines. The climb to Mont Brouilly that follows is quite steep. The path climbs through the vineyards and offers superb views of the southern part of Beaujolais.
You reach the road then the belvedere. This fully furnished place is ideal for enjoying the view. An orientation table allows you to stay informed. At the top, the famous chapel of Notre-Dame-aux-Raisins awaits you. The place is quite coveted by tourists. The descent is via a path on the west slope, calm and pleasant. The end of the route follows a part common to the outward route, before returning to Odenas.
