Hiking

The Punta Prarosso Loop offers a moderate hiking experience through the varied landscapes of the Valli di Lanzo. You'll traverse diverse terrain, from quiet forest sections to open dirt roads, as you make your way up to the ridge. The route is celebrated for its "extremely panoramic" views, especially from the grassy summit of Punta Prarosso, where you can gaze upon the Valli di Lanzo mountains and even Monviso on a clear day. This rewarding journey spans 7.3 miles (11.7 km) with an elevation gain of 2417 feet (737 metres), typically completed in about 4 hours and 39 minutes.

This loop tour is best enjoyed during the mid-season due to its sun exposure, though you might find some descents to be shaded. While the trail is generally straightforward and well-marked, be prepared for some strenuous steep ascents that will give you a good workout. The maintained path makes navigation easy, allowing you to focus on the scenery. Plan your visit for a time when the weather is pleasant for hiking.

As you hike the Punta Prarosso Loop, keep an eye out for the "Sentiero Balcone," or Balcony Path, which offers unique viewpoints along the watershed. This trail is a fantastic way to explore the natural beauty of the province of Turin, providing wide vistas from its highest points. The varied terrain and consistent views make it a notable option for those looking to immerse themselves in the region's mountainous landscape.

Punta Prarosso

Highlight • Summit

Punta Prarosso is an underlying relief on the south-southeast summit of Cima dell'Angiolino, which functions as a watershed between Valle del Tesso and Valle del Malone.
Description
From Saccona 886 m, take the mule track to the right of the church in a northeasterly direction, hilly on a steep slope. Pass the Meini huts 985 m and equipped. Cross a dirt road, continue on meadows and maintain the maximum incline until you come to a majestic chestnut tree, then follow the mule track that enters the forest. Once you reach the dirt road that connects Saccona to Prarosso, which at that point descends to San Grato, follow it for about 50 meters. Leave the road at the first right turn to reach the Prarosso Huts 1081m up the path. Continue on the dirt road until just before it ends. Turn left in a northwesterly direction, after 50m follow the steepest slope in a northwesterly direction until you reach Punta Prarosso 1497m.
