The complete Schaffhauserland Bike mountain bike tour is around 160 kilometers long. Here we introduce you to a section of it that takes you from Hallau to Thayngen.

Things get off to a quick start: you drive over the Hallauer Berg to Schleitheim. In the pretty half-timbered town you can treat yourself to a first break and gather strength for the next climb, which is tough. It goes up on the edges. The Randenhaus is waiting for you at the top. You can stop here and replenish your energy reserves.

A rapid descent then takes you to Hemmental. From here it goes uphill again. You drive over the Hasenbuck, the Hagen and the German-Swiss border to the Hoher Randen. Here you have reached the highest point of the tour and almost the entire mountain range. From now on it's pretty much all downhill. On the way you switch back and forth between Switzerland and Germany a few times, but then you roll into Thayngen, where you reach the destination of the tour.

The church, built in 1491, quickly developed into a popular pilgrimage church. The church received the nimbus of a place of pilgrimage because of supposed miraculous healings by St. Mauritius and his relics. The miracle myth was reinforced by the Alemannic grave finds uncovered during the construction of the church, as the buried were interpreted as fallen youths of the Theban Legion led by Mauritius. The three keystones of the choir vault also point to the Mauritius legend.
